64 hours in October: How one weekend blew up the rules of American politics

October 7, 2016

First, the top intelligence officials of the Obama administration announced their belief that the Russian government was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee earlier in the year.

Then the Washington Post published the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Donald Trump bragged about forcing himself on women.

And WikiLeaks dumped a trove of emails hacked from the Clinton campaign head John Podesta.

Oh & BTW on that day: Somewhere in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin is celebrating his 64th birthday.

30 minute documentary of the day:

The so called litmus test for Trump. If his base didn't abandon him after the Access Hollywood tape, there was nothing he could do that would make them leave.

I didn't watch the video, but it is interesting to think that this is being couched in historical terms. I've yet to read HRC's book but would like to hear her take on this time.

Pedantic me thinks the title should be "How the rules of American Politics changed in one month" But some might argue there have been other "October Surprises"

I still wish that Obama was more forceful during this time. I read recently that he even told Zuckerberg that he was being played.

But hindsight is 20/20. There were so many dynamics being played out. I never thought the Access Hollywood tapes would change many people's mind. Look how many women still voted for him.

Now I hear there are some more tapes from another show him saying crazy shit, and even the pee-pee tape if it exists....will they have any effect whatsoever?

The rules have changed and the bar has been lowered to the gutter

It was a bit of a rhetorical question, but point being that letter and it's fiasco of a roll-out played a big part in the election too, and I think that ultimately could be traced back to the Weiner scandal.
And some will claim that letter lead to the Comey firing at least as an excuse.

And whilst this was going on the Trump campaign was being investigated by the FBI

Most definitely an interesting time in our history. The consequences have proven to be tragic

Rumor is that *if* the pee-pee tape does exist, one or more than one of the girls that's in it are underage.

I can say with confidence that if a tape was ever leaked of underage prostitutes urinating on Trump, I do believe that would be the end of him.

What if it's just young girls peeing on the bed that Obama slept in while he watched?

I think that is what the claim is

Plus, the underage factor. The Access Hollywood stuff was disgusting, and it should have been the end of him. But I think a lot of his supporters view the women he "grabbed by the pussy" as adults. Bringing underage people into it is a completely different conversation.

If it is found that Putin was holding the tape over his head as collateral, that should be a game changer
