The Media double standard continues

The media always holds democrats/progressives to a much higher standard than they do republicans/conservatives. The latest example: Harvey Weinstein.

This scandal is less than a week old and already some in the media are outraged that many Dems and progressives haven't denounced him yet. And I'm not talking about FAUX but CNN and MSNBC.

Now let's compare this to a similar scandal at FAUX with Bill O'Reilly and Roger Ailes. When those stories broke, no one in the media required republicans/conservatives to denounce either Ailes or O'Reilly, and to date very few have done so.

Liberal media, my ass!

5. No but it is not right for the media

to hold one side to a higher standard and let the other side slide.

2. I don't know about that

Harvey Weinstein is a dirtbag. He's reaped this, and is suffering the consequences. And I feel like the furor is cumulative.

And women expect better of people who participate in liberal politics. HW was a big donor. And he abused his power. A lot. People are rightly angry about it!!!!

4. People were angry about Ailes and O'Reilly too

Yet no one criticized republicans who have still stayed silent about them. That's a double standard.

6. I was mad about them

and I'm mad about this. Republican standards don't concern me. I don't want them to set the standard.

8. It's not the republican standard, it's the media standard

of raising the bar for democrats and lowering it for republicans.

10. I think you're wrong

I saw a lot of negative media analysis of O'Reilly and Ailes. And they were both let go. Can't control whether the fans still like them or not. Not surprising the same people who would vote for DT as president despite his access hollywood crap would still buy O'Reilly's books.

Shocker.

13. No you are thinking wrong.

The media is criticizing dems for not denouncing Weinstein. They didn't do the same of republicans for not denouncing O'Reilly and Ailes.

12. +1000. Plus Weinstein-type stories are how they achieve a phony EQUALIZATION.

Compared to Republicans, the truth about Democrats has seldom been entertaining enough for good ratings, either on its own or as fuel needed to stoke a constant drama story between Repug and Democrat.

Plus, where the MSM media behave "liberal" is mostly in simply covering news the right prefers not be mentioned at all, such as reporting on climate change or the viewpoint of the NFL kneelers -- not in a liberal bias in the coverage itself. Many are, in fact, conservative and work hard to twist and inflate or deflate coverage to serve conservative views.

14. Remember all the support Schwarzenegger got from Leno, Oprah and others

when he was running for governor? He and that thing in the White House were supported by REPUBLICAN officials in their quests to be governor of our biggest state and "president" of our country. REPUBLICAN officials supported these criminal pigs in achieving these positions AFTER (for sure!) knowing about their piggish criminality. (Weinstein is apparently a pig and a criminal... but he's a donor, not the head of a state or country.) And yes, there is definitely a double standard (and much higher bar!) for Democrats. I guess the media just expect Republicans to be criminal pigs?

15. I guess it's easier to talk about how

we are victims of a hostile media instead of how we are the victims of a "fundraising above all" mentality that counts Harvey Weinstein as a "Good Democrat"

16. Wow! You missed the point.

This is not about fundraising, it is about the media always holding Dems/progressive to a much higher standard than they do republicans/conservatives regardless of the issue.

17. First off

I hold myself as Democrat to a higher standard. If the day ever comes that we enable a Trump simply to keep power (The Republican standard) we stand for nothing. I have no problem if the NYT, the WP, or CNN demands I do better than a Republican.

AND yes, me complaining about being held to the standard I expect for myself instead of asking "If I am willing to enable a sexual harraser or worse just because he can bundle millions of dollars of donations, what do I stand for?" is missing the forest for the trees.

18. You still missed the point

So please get off your high horse. The point is about fairness in the media. The Weinstein case is just the latest example of the media setting the bar for Dems higher than for the GOP.
