BTRTN: Uncorked... Rebublicans Count on a Coup Rather than the Constitution

Born To Run the Numbers on the implications of Bob Corker's comments -- that Congressional Republicans are knowingly allowing a man they view to be dangerously impulsive and foolishly provocative to keep his finger on the launch codes.

http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2017/10/uncorked-republicans-count-on-coup.html

Excerpt: "The overall implication of Bob Corker’s shocking candor is actually hard to miss: the leaders of the Republican Party are counting on generals to execute a de facto emergency military coup rather than following their conscience to the legal steps that are already built into the Constitution: an orderly process of impeachment, or Section 4 of the 25th Amendment...
We have commented repeatedly at the cowardice of Republican leadership. The cowardice to strip away healthcare coverage from millions of people to score political points. The cowardice to stand on the sidelines as their leader defends the violence of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and anti-Semites. The cowardice to pretend that global warming is not real. The cowardice to not explode in outrage when their leader arbitrarily bars transgender persons from serving in the military. The cowardice to enable their leader to spew endless lies. The cowardice to stigmatize and castigate people because of their faith. The cowardice to be intimidated into inaction by the gun lobby. The cowardice to stand behind a leader who is a brazen misogynist and a serial sexual assailant...And now, the cowardice to hope that a military coup will save them from needing to face the inconvenient reality that they, too, have already concluded that Donald Trump is unfit to be President of the United States."

and their "base" would still vote for them. Where if it was to adhere to the Constitution and follow through with impeachment, they'd have concessions to make, be forced to cooperate with the Democrats, and so doing, totally piss off their base.

They courted the racists & zealots & have lost control. Now the loons are in charge. If anyone thinks they can't come up with someone worse than the Con, just look to Alabama's Roy Moore.

... Although I do believe that Kelly and Mattis are patriots, and that they would not disobey the President for the purpose of permanently seizing power, but rather for the goal of preventing an imminent catastrophe. Yet the implication of the action is the same. Once it has been established -- and condoned -- that the military can act independently of the President, then our constitutional form of government no longer sits on a solid foundation. Future military leaders will have a huge precedent for independent actions and rogue behavior. That is why the Republicans must adhere to the Constitutional remedies -- not an expedient and utterly gutless end-around.
