Rollins College prepares for Obama's Friday visit

When Rollins College learned a few days ago that President Barack Obama would be visiting on Friday, campus officials sprang into action.

The small Winter Park college's security force, technology team, and events and scheduling department have been meeting and planning to determine how they can best accommodate what Obama's presidential reelection campaign describes as a grass-roots event in the college's Harold and Ted Alfond Sports Center. The event will open to the public at 2 p.m.

Student organizations are also involved in some of the planning. Kate Barnekow, president of Rollins College Democrats, said her group is working with Organizing for America-Florida to make sure that Rollins College students get to attend and be involved with the event.

The Obama campaign confirmed Wednesday afternoon that people had lined up outside the door of its offices in Orlando, Kissimmee and Sanford to pick up the free tickets. The campaign was expected to begin distributing tickets at 5 p.m.
