I was just on the phone with my Mom, and I she told me she is fed up with Mitt Romney's lies.
This woman who has never voted for a democrat in her LIFE is going to vote for Obama since (her words) "At least he doesn't lie like Mitt Romney does so much."

I think the Bain business drove her past the finish line.

(13,566 posts)were shaking their heads at the Republican field. Not guys you would expect to be wavering, given any good choices. Of course I couldn't be sure none of them were Democrats. One is a business owner, one is a rancher and I wasn't sure about the other guy.
It definitely makes me think we are not in a high turnout situation for guys like that. It hasn't gotten any better for Republicans since that day for sure.

(2,166 posts)But my mind keeps going back to the 2004 election, when I thought it was a slam dunk. And then I see articles like this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/18/obama-approval-rating-economy_n_1684611.html
Reading DU, I start to feel good about Obama winning ... But then I read Aol, the articles and comments, and I realize that there's a big possibility that Romney might win.

However, this past week in speaking with a dear friend whom I've never met in person, I was shocked by the ugly hatred that she has for President Obama. We were talking about the Senate bill that would make Internet-based businesses collect sales tax for every state, an overwhelming burden to say the least for small businesses, and she immediately blamed President Obama for it instead of the cash-strapped governors (many of whom are Republicans) who need more revenue. Then she mentioned President Obama's daughters (using the phrase "those girls" having some outing and resented having to pay for it. None of this was an issue during the Bush years for the Bush family. She even denied that Bush squandered a surplus. What I realize now is that there is a true hatred that has infected many people in this country. Even people we would call friends who are rational and loving in so many ways, who don't want to have to pay for food stamps, health care or anything for anybody else but themselves. They don't seem to realize the level of poverty that exists now for too many people in our country. My friend sent me this link which I am asking members of DU to evaluate and comment on, claiming that the Federal government will seize food and guns:

The Republican hate machine is influencing a lot of people. This hatred combined with prejudice, fear and just not having enough are creating an electorate that will be very motivated in November.
We have a lot of work to do to counter this hatred and win this election.
