A lobbyist who represented Nevadas Catholic bishops at the state Legislature resigned when they began an investigation into reports that he was a convicted felon on probation.
The investigation into the criminal status of John Cracchiolo, a registered lobbyist for the Nevada Catholic Conference since 2007, revealed that the Nevada Legislature does not restrict felons from serving as lobbyists or require them to disclose their criminal histories.
... The dioceses background check, conducted in the fall of 2007, failed to find that Cracchiolo and his partner in the Irvine, Calif.-based Endocare Inc. a company that made a device used to treat cancerous tumors were indicted in April 2007 by a federal grand jury in Santa Ana, Calif. The 27 counts included wire fraud, securities fraud and lying on financial records.
Their bogus sales and investment scheme caused investors to lose more than $200 million, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorneys office for the Central District of California.
