(118,630 posts)who legislated the troops into Niger and apparently it was Frederica Wilson who wanted the US to fight Bolo Haram: link curtesy of discussionist. Which goes to prove that democrats 'wait for the facts to become available' while republicans construct a 'narrative' immediately and put it on the internet. The two parties are not even playing the same game and are in separate worlds. I don't know how republicans live with themselves. As soon as Benghazi happened the GOP were on it politically because it was their chance at going after Clinton. Meanwhile Democrats were trying to report what they knew about Benghazi as it happened. Which was faulty at first and loosey goosey...not politically astute. Trump has been political from the get go on Niger by not reporting anything for the first few days. They see everything from a political telephoto lens. Republicans massage the facts. Democrats find the facts. I hope Democrats run on that difference.

(18,252 posts)It didn't "authorize troops into Niger".
Here's the relevant text from the June White House letter to Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader O'Connell concerning Africa operations.
"...the United States has deployed combat-equipped forces to a number of locations in the U.S. Central, European, Africa, Southern, and Pacific Commands' areas of responsibility. Such operations and deployments have been reported previously, consistent with Public Law 107-40 and the War Powers Resolution..."
snip----------------------------------------------------------
"Lake Chad Basin Region: United States military personnel in the Lake Chad Basin continue to provide a wide variety of support to African partners conducting counterterrorism operations in the region. In Niger, there are approximately 645 United States military personnel deployed to support these missions. In Cameroon, approximately 300 United States military personnel are also deployed, the bulk of whom are supporting United States airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations in the region. These forces are equipped with weapons for the purpose of providing their own force protection and security, and they will remain in Cameroon, with the consent of the Government of Cameroon, until their support is no longer needed."

(1,828 posts)that everyone seems to ignore is, the people in Benghazi, were there to protect the Consulate of the US and everyone knew they were there. They were attacked and killed in a US entity. No one seems to know why those 4 soldiers were in Niger, what was their mission and why did they have no one to watch for them? What role does Blackwater have in this so called mission in Niger?

(1,459 posts)FID mission doing the same thing as they have since the Obama years.
Just because you don't know...

I like the language better for the inevitable satire. But your point is spot on.
