OBAMA - We Ain't Seen NOTHING Yet: BAIN Just PRELUDE To REAL BLOW=The Ryan Budget

The Obama Strategy: Bain Softens Up Romney For The Real Blow: the Ryan Budget

Obama: Romney Ends Medicare As We Know It
By Jonathan Chait

Today President Obama talks Medicare in Florida and argues that Mitt Romney will “end Medicare as we know it.” The claim is undeniably true, though keep in mind that “as we know it” is a fairly elastic term. President Clinton promised to “end welfare as we know it,” which didn’t mean simply zeroing out the program but transforming it into something fundamentally different. That’s what the Romney-Ryan plan to transform Medicare into a system driven by private insurance vouchers would do. Ryan has moderated his original proposal by agreeing to include a public option in return for securing the support of Democratic senator Ron Wyden, but it’s still a fairly dramatic reform.

The Obama campaign’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s business record and personal finances will probably continue for a long time. But I think that, when the campaign is remembered in history, they will not be seen as the central element but rather as a prelude. The main event is going to be a fight over the priorities of the Paul Ryan budget.

So Bain, lack of transparency, tax returns, Swiss Bank accounts, Cayman Islands, etc., all are necessary. Ed Rendell and Cory Booker have their heads up their asses. (Rendell's comment attacking Obama is staring in a Crossroads GPS (Karl Rove special) 9 million dollar ad buy.) I think Ed needs to make a donation to Priorities to make up for his stupidity. Fork over some of that msnbc money, Ed.

Good thing the Obama campaign ignored them.

The real strategy re Bain & Ryan Plan: a lot of people (R, D & I) don't think Romney would actually DO to Medicare & Social Security what the Ryan Budget calls for in it.

Romney's Bain history shows he is perfectly happy to throw people - working people, middle class people, people like you and me - off the health care coverage which they have been contributing to, working for and counting on for years and years. He has no qualms about destroying the pensions that people have been contributing to, counting on and, literally, living off of for years.

It is how he got rich. He is that ruthless and uncaring. He's already done it. No one should assume he won't follow through with the draconian Ryan budget. He believes it. He lives it.

The Obama Campaign figured out that they needed to convince people that the threat of the Ryan Budget is real or else people just shrug it off.

“First, it goes to the heart of his primary rationale for being better on the economy,” Garin said. “Second, once people have learned that Romney was willing to fire workers and terminate health and pension benefits while taking tens of millions out of companies, they are much more ready to understand that Romney would indeed cut Social Security and Medicare to give tax breaks to rich people like himself. This provides a foundation to build the core policy critique against Romney.”

“We’ve firmly established that Romney’s tenure was not about creating jobs,” Garin added. “This sets the stage for what we’ll be doing later on.”
