Manfort AND Gates

Last edited Mon Oct 30, 2017, 08:48 AM - Edit history (2)

Unlike Manafort, who was forced out last year, Gates continued to work on the Trump campaign and even the inaugural committee

Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, was told to surrender by authorities Monday morning, according to the New York Times.

The charges against Manafort, who has been told to surrender along with Rick Gates, a former business associate, “were not immediately clear but represent a significant escalation in a special counsel investigation that has cast a shadow over the president’s first year in office,” the Times reports.

The Times notes:

Mr. Manafort had been under investigation for violations of federal tax law, money laundering

Here we go:

Paul Manafort and his former business associate Rick Gates were told to surrender to federal authorities Monday morning, the first charges in a special counsel investigation, according to a person involved in the case.

The charges against Mr. Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, and Mr. Gates, a business associate of Mr. Manafort, were not immediately clear but represent a significant escalation in a special counsel investigation that has cast a shadow over the president’s first year in office.
This is a developing story.

President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and his longtime protégé, Rick Gates, were told to surrender to federal authorities on Monday morning, according to The New York Times. The still-unknown charges expected to be laid against Manafort and Gates mark an important escalation in the investigation by Special Counselor Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the U.S. election. Manafort has for months been under investigation for federal tax law violations, in addition to money laundering and inappropriate disclosure of his foreign lobbying.

President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his former business associate Rick Gates have been instructed to surrender to federal authorities on Monday morning as part of an investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

Manafort has found himself in the crosshairs of a special counsel probe headed up by former FBI head Robert Mueller. The New York Times reported that Manafort and Gates have been told to turn themselves in, but did not provide information about what charges the pair face. The paper cited a “person familiar with the case.”

Manafort, a lawyer and lobbyist, joined Trump’s campaign team in March 2016, and was elevated to the role of campaign manager from June to August 2016. He resigned amidst a scandal about his work for pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarchs.

That is what would happen with us little people. The police would not phone and ask if we could please come in, they would show up and handcuff you.
Yet another way, the rich and powerful are treated differently.
