The depravity of Facebook

A disabled father of 12 scavenging for cans is killed for sport by 16-year-old, who got two friends to take turns filming the murder

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/07/16/12768242-3-teens-charged-in-beating-death-of-disabled-man-posted-on-facebook

Facebook seems to have been created to exploit the lower human need for approval. I am shocked at how many businesses now have signs saying "Like us on Facebook."

The disconnect of killing someone and then posting it should chill everyone to the bone. Technology and the breakdown in society are very troubling indeed...

You might as well say paper is depraved, for all the murderers who wrote letters before the Internet 2ndAmForComputers Jul 2012 #1

FB is all about impressing other people, fitting in, being a sheeple. Being "liked" (which is an adolescent longing) is a major goal. It's utterly pathetic.

God help us all when someone invents a way for us to ridicule someone by saying the opposite of what we mean.

When they do, I think they should call it "sarcasm."

FYI, FB broadcasts these things far and wide. Likewise, Youtube. You see this uptick on violence being filmed specifically to film it and show the masses.

How is the onus on Facebook? If it wasn't for Facebook these pieces of shit would not have gotten caught so quickly, if at all.. Give them their day in court and hang them. It's better than they deserve.

I am saying that the whole FB mentality, which is narcissism on parade: "Hey, look at me!" 24/7, fed into the pathology of someone who felt so small that he thought that someone would be impressed that he murdered someone and put it online.

"Hey, look at me! Look how righteously outraged I am! Am I not a paragon of moral rectitude? Come on, adulate me! Rec this thread!"

Another poster down below is correct: the only way not to partake in the vanity is not to use the Internet at all. A line of action I heartily recommend.

The fact they tape it and show it online isn't a reflection on any depravity other than their own.

And this has nothing to actually do with the Internet or Facebook. It has to do with people who are never taught ethics or how to be a good person.

Maybe you should destroy your computer since that is the only place where these events you mention are connected.
