I wanted to look up news on the Aurora shooting and was a bit put off by the Google results



First hit is news for the shooting, and the next hits are for shooting ranges, gun clubs and such in the area. There's even a place in the area to take your family shooting.

I know this is just how Google returns searches but the juxtaposition is rather striking.

Google monitors your searches and adapts to what it thinks you want.

In order to work around that you have to be pretty specific in your query by using more terms, I've found.
