Other Than Gender, What's the Difference Between Roy Moore and Pedophile Priests?

Some Catholic Priests faced their teen age victims decades after the incident took place. The space in time did not reduce the credibility of the victims.

The key factors are that the victims did tell someone else, in real time and made credible accusations of the accounts by using time, places and events.

The Catholic church paid millions of dollars to victims, even after the statute of limitations expired, in many cases.

The least we can do is not let this pedophile, Roy Moore, be elevated to the United States Senate.

1. Moore is a male. Priests are male.

Same gender, no?

5. The victims' gender

The Priests, in a vast number of cases, abused young boys. Moore is accused of abusing young girls.

15. Actually, lots of girls were abused by priests as well.

We just don't hear as much about them.

2. Priests dont run for office.

I suppose the distinction is that pedophile priests arenít running for office and rarely enjoy broad support in their parish after being accused by multiple victims.

3. Priests have molested girls as well.

The difference is that the Catholic Church has a tiny shred of decency left, once they were forced to have it. A tiny shred.

10. Not the victims I know

I think you're generalizing this a bit too much.

How about we stick to anyone who molests/assaults ANY minor?

11. 80% of victims were male

According to Psychology today:

<snip> First, a look at the statistics: The most detailed statistics on child abuse for the Catholic clergy that I can find comes from the special report based on a national survey of victimization conducted for the 2004 American Catholic bishops' conference. The findings reveal that the frequency of child abuse among Catholic priests is not remarkable-involving around 4 % of priests and deacons who served in the U.S., but its pattern is. Outside of the Catholic Church, the overwhelming numbers of juvenile victims of sexual abuse are female. Within the church, however, four out of five of their victims are male. Most were adolescents aged 14 or over; 15% were under 10. <snip>

13. Ok

I still think it doesn't matter in the scheme of things but after re-reading your OP I see the point you were making clearer.

As a Catholic school kid I have found out even recently about female classmates back then being molested too, which made me want to barf.

17. I wasn't molested, but

as a 5th grade girl in Catholic school I was "approached" by a young priest. Actually, he was a hottie--most of the girls and some of the boys in school had a crush on him. Still, it was icky--I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. I made some excuse to get away ("gotta get back to praying!" and it never happened again.

The point is, whether it's a priest or a politician, it's reprehensible for someone to use a position of power and trust to prey on young people for sex. That's in addition to the fact that it's wrong for ANY adult to sexually harass, abuse, molest, or even approach anyone underage.

12. There was much easier access to boys in the church

as, for a long time, girls were not involved in many activities with priests(alter boys, etc.)so the victims were much more likely to be boys.

attracted them to the priesthood.

4. For Moore supporters gender makes a huge difference

They think 2 adult gay men having consensual sex is worse than hetero adult man with underage girls

26. Priests worked for an organization designed to propagate and protect pedophilia, aka the Church

Church shuffled priests around to provide access to new victims, while simultaneously collecting money to pay off old victims. It is a pedophilia pyramid scheme.
