I remember when I was a Literacy Volunteer I tutored a very smart Chinese woman who could not for the life of her understand our saying "holy shit." She asked how something could be holy and shit at the same time. Good question. And you know, I couldn't explain it to her...

I am leaving China for #APEC2017 in Vietnam. @FLOTUS Melania is staying behind to see the zoo, and of course, the Great WALL of China before going to Alaska to greet our AMAZING troops.

I'm guessing it's because China has their internet on lock-down and he has to VPN to a US server to tweet? Or something along those lines?

Tweets on the same day from him don't have the location. Once you tap the location icon it continues to provide location on tweets until you turn it off.

I've seen Houston also shown as a location. My understanding is the location shown is provided by the phone's GPS.
