(18,402 posts)but out of friendship or courtesy to those who do, we give gifts to the following:
1. The maintenance guys in our building (fairly substantial checks).
2. The newspaper deliverer (some cash in a card).
3. Husband's office staff (wine or foodstuffs or something personal).
4. We bake three or four kinds of cookies to put on the doorsteps of neighbors on our floor.
5. When our kids were growing up, we had them give small presents to their good friends.
As for family, we celebrate Hanukkah and at this point buy gifts predominantly only for our grandchildren and grandnieces (no boys in the family!). Off to the toy store soon.

(34,195 posts)I buy gifts for a couple close friends.
My two remaining siblings are right wing evangelicals who long ago told me
I'll be burning in Hell while they party in Heaven.
So, no gifts for them ~ although I do send them each a "Happy Holidays" card.

(4,492 posts)If friends want to exchange gifts, I let them pick out a piece of jewelry that I made but is not yet listed in my Etsy store.
However, with friends I'd rather just go out to dinner.
