NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wants Obama and Romney To Tell Us How They Will Prevent Mass Shootings

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one of the nation’s highest-profile supporters of gun control, said Friday that “soothing words are nice ” but demanded that the presidential candidates “stand up and tell us what they’re going to do about” preventing mass shootings.

Asked about the shootings at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater showing “The Dark Knight Rises” that killed at least 12 people, Bloomberg said President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney need to offer specific policy proposals, in addition to prayers and sympathy.

“Soothing words are nice,” Bloomberg said during a regularly scheduled appearance on WOR 710 AM in New York. “But maybe it’s time the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they’re going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country. And everybody always says, ‘Isn’t it tragic?’”

“I mean, there’s so many murders with guns every day,” Bloomberg continued. “It’s just gotta stop. And instead of these two people, President [Barack] Obama and Governor [Mitt] Romney talking in broad things about, they want to make the world a better place. OK, tell us how. And this is a problem. No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them, concretely, not just in generalities, specifically, what are they going to do about guns?”

I presume you're a gun guy. That's fine. Apparently, our society has already decided to tolerate this sort of tragedy to accommodate those with a gun fetish.

I thought Bloomberg's comments were entirely appropriate and, in fact, surprisingly "logical" and reasoned for a politician.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult for people with mental health and substance use disorders to find affordable, quality coverage in the health insurance marketplace. Right now, estimates show that one-fifth to one-third of the uninsured are people with mental and substance use disorders.

The Affordable Care Act takes steps to change that:

Right now, if you haven’t been able to find health insurance due to a pre-existing mental health condition, you may be able to access the new Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan. Be sure to check out this section on this site; plans may vary depending on where you live.
The first time you renew or purchase health coverage after September of this year, plans that offer coverage for dependents are required to extend that coverage until a young adult turns 26. Some plans are making this coverage available now, so you should check with your insurance company or employer.
Starting in 2014, substance abuse or mental illness can no longer be used by insurers to deny coverage as a “pre-existing condition” – and insurers also won’t be able to use those conditions to raise your premiums.
Also in 2014, mental health and substance use disorder services will be part of the essential benefits package, a set of health care service categories that must be covered by certain plans, including all insurance policies that will be offered through the Exchanges, and Medicaid.

And we know what RMoney and the Republicans think of the ACA.

but you need a photo ID to vote.

Here's my solution:

Sell all the guns people want but don't sell ammunition without a photo ID and a background check and a note from your doctor stating that you do not have mental health issues.

The Second Amendment States - No interference with guns - actually the amendment says nothing specific about guns - it is about the right to raise a standing militia.

The Second Amendment does not mention ammunition.
