loss of rents insurance.

OTOH - it may not cover acts of terrorism. The problem - the last time I looked into this an "act of terrorism" was not really defined in the policy so the insurance carrier could make it mean pretty much whatever they want it to mean when an actual claim is filed.

The American Red Cross set up a shelter at Aurora Central High School
for people evacuated from their residences because of the police search and monitoring.

you are supposed to pay when you are barred from your home by gov't action -- it is not the duty of the police to provide you with alternate housing, i guess that's what your credit card or emergency fund is supposed to be for

the landlord may or may not have insurance, but the insurance may not pay for this kind of action (if it's a terrorist act) and, in any event, it may be up to the TENANT'S renters insurance to cover hotel, etc. and most tenants don't have renter's insurance

and, finally, yes, in many disasters and apparently this one as well, the red cross will frequently step up and provide shelter, although it's a last resort

most people real world will just spend a few days with friends or family

It may be too dangerous to try to disable all the booby traps etc., and they might just blow it up.

That would sure be hell for those other tenants in the building. Boom, your home is gone!

We had some homes evacuated because a rail car carrying fuel caught fire a few months ago and the homeowners could not get to their homes for several days. The local schools were opened and the red cross provided food and bedding. There was also a lot of other people who offered shelter and donations.

A person that was coming to my house to do some work that day called to say she could not make it and they were staying in some kind of auditorium. I offered her and her family our guest bedroom but she said things were fine and they were being well cared for. Later she told me that the company that owned the fuel had compensated all those that were affected.

There may be some kind of fund raising to help these families, it would certainly seem like a worthy cause.
