Trump: Not a dime for California disaster aid.

Mother Jones:

A few weeks ago, California requested $7.4 billion in disaster aid following the massive series of wildfires in the northern part of the state that killed 43 people and destroyed nearly 9,000 structures. Actually, let’s back up. That’s not quite accurate. California’s Democratic governor, its two Democratic senators, and its 39 Democratic members of Congress asked for $7.4 billion. With only one exception, California’s Republican delegation boycotted a request for disaster funding for their own state.

Yesterday the Trump administration responded to California’s request:

While the request includes anemic supplemental funding for states ravaged by hurricanes, it contains no funding whatsoever for rebuilding the communities in California devastated by the recent wildfires…. “For the Administration to not request even a single additional penny to help rebuild the communities devastated by the worst fires in California’s history is mind-boggling,” [said the two congressmen who led the disaster relief effort].

This brings the toxicity of partisan politics to jaw-dropping levels. California Republicans won’t even stick up for their own state, and a Republican president offers nothing in response to an enormous natural disaster. Why? No reason was given, but Occam’s Razor suggests that the best guess is the most obvious one: California is a Democratic state that didn’t vote for Donald Trump. You don’t mess with the family.

when they fly around in $20M biz jets. That's a proposal that looks like the Senate version of Cheeto's tax plan will have in it. Sure...you rich asshats want to fly around and utilize ATC,Fed maintained navigation aids etc,etc but don't want to pay a tax to do so.

Nah...let the working class slobs flying in the cattle car airline seat pay it............

Yes Obama’s actions were those of a true President not a traitorous Putin tool. So Vlads poodle is following the basic third rate puppet would-be despot playbook which is all his orange addled mind can follow: Do everything opposite to what Obama did.

Nixon had his "enemies" list, Trump has his "ignore the hell out of them" list. And the GOP is always the first to point fingers at Democrats for partisan politics. They've taken this shit to a whole new level.

Californians are tired of insufficient representation in the federal government. We are tired of using our revenues to keep “taker” states like Mississippi afloat. We are tired of hearing crap like, “Hillary Clinton’s 3 million popular votes over Trump are just from California; subtract that pinko state, and Trump has a popular vote victory,” and so on.

If things get worse (and I’m not feeling optimistic), California and the West Coast states should seriously consider getting the hell out of what’s shaping up to be a genuinely fascist federal government, overseen by oligarchs, and run as a Russian satellite state. Californians want no part of that. We’re goddamned sick about what’s happened to this country already.

The Federal government should decline to pick up the tab for any Republican member of Congress needing any kind of medical attention at all. Scalise needed a bunch of expensive surgery after being shot in Alexandria? All those surgeries probably ran up a bill of $400,000 or more. Let him pay that out of his own pocket. What's good for the goose is good for the assholes.

Why aren't MSM journalists still asking these questions: What do you have to say to the people of CA who were devastated by the recent wildfires? Why haven't you sent aid to the communities and people of central and northern CA who were devastated by the recent wildfires?

It is here: https://newrepublic.com/article/140948/bluexit-blue-states-exit-trump-red-america

I think the time is coming.

The Mother Jones article's title is:

That says it all!

..... when we control Congress. Punish EVERY red state. And primary every republican Congress member until they feel the pain.

Seriously if they are going to use the government as a weapon to punish then we need to bring the SAME weapon to the fight.

When our country is only a thinning image of it's once great place in the world I for one am going to blame BOTH parties for the destruction. The republicans for the attacks and the democrats for letting them.

My home of 23 years was incinerated in the Tubbs Fire of northern California. It doesn't surprise me at all that the Republican Party are playing politics with disaster relief. That is the climate in which we currently live.

My wife and I are fine and will recover and rebuild. We consider ourselves fortunate for many reasons.

However, there are many who are far less fortunate than us; renters who didn't have renters' insurance, people whose jobs went up in smoke, and the elderly who are having a difficult time with the red tape that follows such disasters.

I won't take a dime that this heartless administration doles out. But many don't have any other choice, and it's for them that I'm incredibly angry.

2018 is coming upon us rapidly and I implore every thinking and thoughtful American to open your pocketbooks and give generously, VERY generously, to the pro-American progressive candidate in your districts and states.

We must do more than just vote. We must sacrifice in the short term to save our nation for the long term.
