Time Magazine Person of the Year is most influential person for "Better or Worse"

Several horrible people have been given that award for influencing global events for the worse, as wikipedia notes:

However, Time magazine points out that controversial figures such as Adolf Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939 and 1942), Nikita Khrushchev (1957), and Ayatollah Khomeini (1979) have also been granted the title for their impacts.

Based on that, I can see an argument for Trump. He has paralyzed the federal government of the US, ruined the western coalition of nations or at least temporarily has thrown it into disarray, has made unprecedented attacks on the US media, attacked net neutrality, attacked efforts to combat global climate change.

Trump's effects on the globe over the last year have been catastrophic.

Has anyone affected the globe for the better or worse more than that?

1. The difference with Trump is...

He has already made himself Time MOTY and posted his fake mag covers at his resorts

Maybe Time figures that is good enough

2. Putin would be a good choice under those criteria.

I'd kind of like to see a picture of him on the cover, holding the strings of a Trump marionette. It would drive Dolt 45 nuts.

3. Agreed. My wife just said that to me. She also suggested "Internet hackers" as a group.

I think all three are good choices.

4. I agree with Putin too its obvious from the criteria anyway. Putins had far more influence than

Trump on a global scale. Trump is just Putin’s puppet (one of them)

6. He was in 2007--should have been last year, given he elected Trump.

7. You're right; I'd forgotten.

But considering what's happened since, he might "deserve" it again this year.

8. The power behind the throne: Putin

Also, the hand up the puppet's ample butt.

9. This was true but I don't buy it's true anymore...

There's a reason bin Laden didn't get it in 2001 despite literally being the most influential person of that year (it went to Giuliani as a feel good move). It's far more political now and despite the idea that even bad people end up being selected (universally bad, not like George Bush or Trump last year bad), you know, American enemies, it hasn't been that way for a long, long time. It's generally the president when he wins election or some social influencer. Very predictable.

If it is Trump, they're not going to focus on his horrible side. They may talk up the division we've seen but it'll be a semi-flattering piece.

But I don't think it will be Trump. He's been loud but hasn't really influenced anything.
