(431 posts)Van Jones said something interesting on a video someone posted a few days ago. He said republicans vote for tax cuts because they dont want government help. They like to be independent and dont like the thought of the government going into rich peoples pockets, stealing their money and giving it to the lower classes. It goes against their principles and morals.
Ive never looked at it that way but I still disagree with them. Theyve been brainwashed into the pull yourself up by the boot straps logic. I blame the republicans and libertarians. That money doesnt always go into other peoples pockets. It goes towards infrastructure, the military, health care and other necessities that help the country. If we could explained the important of taxes and show examples of tax cuts not working, then maybe some of them will switch parties or at least go independent.

The fruits of our combined labor are hoarded at the top. No corporation could generate wealth without the contributions of everyone involved -- from the lowest hourly wage earner up through middle management to the CEO. A few decades ago the average CEO was paid 40 times as much as the hourly worker, but now it's more like 400. Have CEO's gotten 10 times better during that time span?
It's pretty obvious the pendulum has swung back from organized labor to the unfettered greed of the ruling class. Many of the very richest sit on boards of directors and garner shareholder wealth -- taxed at a lower rate than salary. Along with the ravages of the private equity game, they can sit pretty and watch their big piles of money grow bigger while people who work hard see their standard of living decline and find it ever more difficult to afford higher education for their children.
An economic system that doesn't float all boats is headed for eventual wreck and ruin. Trickle down economics has never worked and it never will. Entrepreneurship and innovation along with the investment resources of big business are necessary components of a healthy economy, but the real economic engine gets going when the majority of people have disposable income to spend.
Starving the government undermines the infrastructure -- both physical and human -- which is the foundation of a healthy economy and a healthy Republic. The concentration of wealth and political power at the top is poison to what our nation's founders bequeathed to us.

(431 posts)Trickle down economics is a failed policy. The person who came up with the idea has even said it doesnt work but that doesnt matter. It works for the 1% so thats all that matters to republicans.
