Government buyout sort of deal, like we do with nuclear goodies abroad. I would think $50 million in cash and prizes would get a lot off the street.
Heck, we could even semi-privatize the effort -- organize bundles of weapons and you can qualify for government business loans. Or subsidized housing. Sword into timeshares sort of thing.

(113 posts)Are done by police departments all the time, often in the wake of shootings like the latest one. However,I've never been tempted to turn in a $1200 rifle for a $50 dollar reward or $100 gift card to chuck e cheese of whatever they usually offer.

(39,665 posts)FWIW, we don't pay market rate for enriched uranium, we *overpay* for it, I understand.
Or even close to market would be great. I know people who buy guns,and some times end up with one they don't use much or just don't like,and find the only way to get their money back out of it quickly is to "gun show loophole" it. Despite what many here may think,there are lots of us who aren't really comfortable with that option.
