I think it would be a grand gesture by the studio to do so...........
updated info: They are doing it

Warner Bros., the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises, is making a donation to charities supporting victims of the Aurora, Colo., shooting rampage. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio has been in contact with Colorodo governor John Hickenlooper's office and will contribute to a fund identified by the governor on the website givingfirst.org, which is a program of Colorado's Community First Foundation. The fund distributes monies across several charities that will support victims of the July 20 killing spree that left at least 12 dead and dozens injured.

(45,319 posts)Warner Bros does not own the theater. Makes zero sense.

(28,158 posts)Them, or the chain stores which sold him the guns, donating to the victims families would at least have a direct connection to the tragedy.

(32,818 posts)Any loud movie like Spiderman would have done the trick. I would suspect a publicity stunt. A scholarship in a relevant field might be nice

(10,164 posts)I mean, it woudl be a wonderful gesture, and probably much appreciated...but I don't think they're under any sort of moral obligation to do so. This isn't in any way their fault.

(20,814 posts)It certainly is in no way their fault that this happened. Sheesh.

(23,616 posts)But if they did it would be a great humanitarian gesture. It may not be the movie's fault, but the Batman industry is huge and it was going to be one of the bigger premieres this summer and the theaters would be filled. There is no doubt that the shooter knew the theaters would be packed and he would get the most number of victims.

(39,191 posts)of course not. Why are they responsible. And 'the right thing to do' doesn't apply this century.
