The Westboro Church plans to picket the Aurora shooting memorial service

Once again the Westboro Baptist Church an anti-semitic, anti-military, group is planning a trip to Colorado to spread their messages of hate according to their twitter feed yesterday July 20, 2012. Fred Phelps Jr. started posting on his Twitter account yesterday with messages like:

?@WBCFredJr - Only 500 miles to WBC Aurora picket. #GodCursesUForFagMarriage #WorseAndMoreOnTheWay #WBCToldU #GodisAmericasTerrorist #ObeyToday Too fun!

WBC gassing up vehicles for Colorado super-picket. #WorseOnTheWay #FearGodFools #GodCursesUForIdolatry #FaceOfGodsWrath #fagsrunmilitary

the TV stations would show everyone of those people in closeup. Put their mugs on the screen for all the country to see - including their KIDS. Newspapers: print giant photographs of them on the front page. Let every citizen see them in their full glory. Scarlet letter them for life. Would serve them right.

Like someone said, they are attention whores.

If they get NO news coverage AT ALL, not even a hint of a mention on the TV machine, and if everybody at the event just walked by without acknowledging them at all, they would stop.

they live for the attention and feedback they get. Give them none, act like they are not even there and don't exist, then they will eventually get bored and stop.

a few years ago where I live and the police said let us show you where you can protest. The police directed them to the far side of a four lane city street with grassy median in between, then parked several large fire trucks and large police vehicles in their line of sight to the funeral home. The mourners couldn't see them, and just in case, a group of bikers came to protect the family. Very proud of the local police, they dealt with the idiots and yet can never be accused of suppressing free speech.

I agree with the poster above who said these bastards are only in this for the publicity.

Oddly we think these people are stupid hicks, but they are highly educated lawyers. When the local municipality denies them the right to protest, they simply sue and win the case. In the end, the more attention they get the more money the make.

I had read that there were many lawyers involved in the family and the group. Appears to be nothing more than an elaborate con, and they've won far too many law suits. That was why I was pleased to see the local police handle their visit here the way they did.

Westboro won't back down for anything when it is this high profile. They are insane and live for this type of scenario. As a Kansan, it is humiliating to have that Phelps family associated with my state. They top the very long list of "What's the Matter with Kansas?"
