Win or lose, Doug Jones has run a helluva campaign

I was unaware of who he was before this campaign started, but I have enjoyed getting to know Jones a little bit over the last couple of months. He seems like a genuinely decent man running for the right reasons. I am happy to have supported him, including a small donation to his campaign. Also a big thank you to all those who have worked hard for Jones on the ground in Alabama.

Good luck, Doug!

5. That was at Jones' request

After the GA 6 race, there was a decision to not nationalize this race. However, Jones was well funded and out spent Moore by a good deal. I agree with Jones' decision to keep the DNC out and to rely on donations.

I gave twice to Jones and I am glad to have done so

6. A smart move IMO.

As it happens, he raised a shit ton of money anyway and has a strong organization, if reports on the ground are to be believed.

10. DNC waged stealth organizing campaign for Jones

this makes me smile https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/12/alabama-senate-democrats-jones-293496

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ó With the spotlight squarely on Roy Moore in the closing weeks of Alabama's Senate special election, a constellation of Democratic groups embarked on an under-the-radar effort to organize voters for candidate Doug Jones.

Despite publicly remaining mum on the race, the Democratic National Committee spent nearly $1 million on the contest while dispatching and funding 30 aides here, a party official told POLITICO. That push came just as Jones sought to distance himself from the national party and win over conservatives.

It was a politically delicate move. Jonesí detractors have tried painting him as a tool of the national party, so Democrats in Washington have tried treading carefully in order to avoid leaving too much of a footprint in a state where Democrats havenít won a Senate seat in over two decades. The effort paid off: Jones prevailed Tuesday.

But the DNC and other national Democrats have also come under fire from critics this year for their perceived lack of involvement in other special elections, so the committee has been eager to chip in.

8. Jones is an excellent candidate

Often in these sacrificial lamb races, the out party just puts up any old seat-warmer. Doug Jones is a fine public servant with a good record of accomplishments for the people of the state of Alabama. He's brought terrorists to justice, served with distinction, and run a good campaign. The Republican candidate is a demagogue with a history of flouting the law and working against the interests of a majority of Alabamans. If they were capable of it, Alabama Republicans should feel ashamed that Roy Moore is their candidate.

11. I've read that he didn't take a position on the GOP tax bill. Is that true?

I would've thought that, even in Alabama, denouncing the provisions that screw over so many people would be good politics.
