we say after Alabama
Democrat Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in the special election.
The editorial noted the Alabama special election, put an exclamation point on a problem that has been festering for a year and a halfever since a core of strident conservative Christians began to cheer for Donald Trump without qualification and a chorus of other believers decried that support as immoral.
The Christian leaders who have excused, ignored, or justified his unscrupulous behavior and his indecent rhetoric have only given credence to their critics who accuse them of hypocrisy, the editorial continued.

(68,454 posts)One day, they had an entire sermon against Gay people. I got up and walked out with my kids and never went back. I had not even evolved on that issue completely, but I know hate when I see it and it has no place in any church. I wish I had never taken my kids to church in Georgia as it drove them away from faith not towards it. And the Evangelicals and those who support men like Trump and Moore have tarnished Christianity further...perhaps permanently. I now go to the Episcopal church and they are truly a church that serves the needy, the sick and stand up for civil rights...they also marry Gay couples. They marched in Cleveland's LGBTQ parade last year. Faith has sustained me during difficult periods in my life. And it is ironic that those who are trying to force their faux version down our throats have driven many young people and others away from Christianity.

We know church attendance has been dropping by those under 30, the same people who also think the poor, the sick, and the environment are IMPORTANT. They are not stupid and clearly see what is before them.

Lookin' at you pastor, Mark Downey, who begged Trump to crack down - on Jews - the Jebus' own people.

Lookin' at all you "prosperity gospel" pastors - who bilk viewers of their money for another house, a bigger jet , a bigger yacht, a bigger helicopter.
Lookin' at you thrice-married Pastor Paula White, who said orange-headed howler monkey was "raised up by God."

A somewhat distinguishing and broad characteristic of Christianity is belief in an earthly divine figure as a mediator between the believer and the ultimate divine being, to bring them to unity.
Thats a very broad circle that takes into account what may be considered more liberal and humanistic Christians, to the more washed in the blood of Jesus types.

And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones ... And Moses was wroth with the officers ... And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? ... How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives? ... And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.
