(26,721 posts)There isn't any evidence that Mueller's team was forwarded thousands of emails.
They may have been provided with electronic copies (perhaps on a flash drive of backup drive), or they may have been provided with paper copies. In either case, they could simply give them back.
Of course, that's not the real news (which is that he has them and says that he received them legally - and this doesn't need to return them).

(52,126 posts)to my former techie ear, "emails" can't be "returned" without making another copy.
however, a "printout of emails" or a "flash drive containing emails" could indeed be returned without making any copies.
and i agree, the real question is whether or not they were obtained legally, though that is sounding like donnie and the gang are grasping at straws. *they* are the ones who obtain emails illegally

(21,506 posts)I would imagine this would have been a data dump from the company of all accounts related to the investigation. Much more likely they just copied the data from whatever server held them then sent a drive containing all of them.
I would be very surprised if there was any skulduggery in this. Pretty routine stuff in any investigation these days.

but oh, anyone looking at *their* emails, whoa, that's an invasion of privacy!
these people have no shame at all.
