Interest high in casting write-in votes in Senate race, state election official says (al.com)

Given the unique circumstances surrounding Alabama's Senate special election, the state's top election official responded in a unique way.
The office of Secretary of State John Merrill issued detailed fact sheets Wednesday to help educate voters who are interested in casting a write-in vote in the Dec. 12 election.
The only names on the ballots will be Democrat Doug Jones and Republican Roy Moore.
But in the wake of sexual allegations made against Moore and the recent Republican-leaning electorate in Alabama, the interest in writing in a candidate has been extraordinary, Merrill said Wednesday in an interview with AL.com.
Alabama's senior senator, Richard Shelby, said Tuesday he cast a write-in vote on his absentee ballot. Shelby has called on Moore to drop out of the race.
