University of Alabama student held on $1.5 million bond for Fentanyl trafficking

A University of Alabama student was arrested today on drug trafficking charges and is now being held in jail on $1.5 million bond.

Ashley Rose Newman, 21, is charged with trafficking in Fentanyl, unlawful possession with intent to distribute, three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, said Tuscaloosa police Lt. Teena Richardson.

According to Newman's Facebook page, she is a theater student at UA. She is from Mandeville, Louisiana.

Newman was arrested by agents from the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force after a raid at her home in the 300 block of 27th Street North at 9 a.m. today. Richardson said agents recovered 23.3 grams of Fentanyl, a quantity of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), amphetamine, cocaine HCL, marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia.
