I'm looking for

a petition, some action, about health care. I found, of course, Bernie's, down this list, but I'd already been there and done that. Is there any other action out there involving health care? My Congressman, Greg Walden, is leading the effort to replace the ACA. Of course, I've written him; not that he listens. I'm looking for something larger, with more people than just me, to participate in as well.

1. Since we don't know

exactly what's going to happen yet, there's not much we can do beyond contacting our representatives. I have my own plan, if the poop hits the propeller. I am going to propose a referendum to eliminate entitlements to gov't officials, like healthcare, pensions, unlimited credit cards, lavish hotel rooms, limos, expensive dinners and luncheons, and let's not forget the booze, plus 33 weeks of paid leave. They are just too much of a burden on taxpayers; they are "unsustainable.

I have to do some research on how to proceed with that. I'll let you know if I hear of anything else happening.

3. I don't have a story to share.

Obamacare didn't offer perks to those of us that already had insurance that we couldn't, and still can't, afford to use. My premiums did not go down. My co-pays and deductibles went up. I still don't use the insurance unless it's a true emergency.

Which is why I was never solidly behind the ACA as a permanent solution. I was glad to support getting more people covered, if that meant they could afford to use the insurance, which I can't. I wanted, still want, single-payer as a better solution.

So, if they want to repeal the ACA, I want a concurrent replacement: universal, single-payer, not-for-profit health CARE.

Goodness knows, we'd all prefer single-payer but the ACA helped a lot of folks. I'm on Medicare myself and with what they want to do to that, well, I won't be seeking any medical assistance unless I absolutely must.

7. If only

this local meeting with my Senators weren't right in the middle of the school day, I'd love to do this.

At this point, we've had 9 days of school canceled because of snow, and this meeting has to be held in an alternate location because of the snowstorm complications. After 9 canceled days, and only 8 school days total since the first of December, I can't take time out of the classroom to attend. I have, though, let my Senators know my position, and I hope there will be people there to meet with them to reinforce that.
