FailureToCommunicate
(14,340 posts)T'is not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order, smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

(8,028 posts)...someone confirming it but, no, I can't confirm it. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
She was the official DU greeter, back in the day. She really made newbies feel welcome and at home. I'm pretty sure my first few hundred posts were made with the goal of being acknowledged by NewYawker99. She really knew how to throw a milestone party.
I would very much like to believe that she's still out there, somewhere...
If you're still out there, NewYawker99, I want to thank you for making me feel so welcome at a time and in a place that was otherwise, pretty intimidating.

I always had hard time reading their last posts and admired their courage and resolve to accept their fate with honesty.

(7 posts)For those who knew Rowdyboy here on DU. It is my sad duty to inform those interested that Steven ( AKA Rowdyboy) passed away this past Wed Mar 5th after losing his battle with cancer. We thought that he was gaining and might possibly have a chance of beating it until the last two weeks when his health took a fast turn for the worse. His funeral services will be at noon tomorrow. He was a dear friend and while we know that he has to be in a better place he will always remain in the hearts of us that knew and loved him. His sense of humor and the witty things he could come up with will always bring a smile and laughter as we remember them over the years.
I just registered on the site here tonight so not real sure about the best way to inform those interested parties that he has interacted with. Also being new I can not start a topic yet so figured this was the best option avenue I have.

Sad news. DUer Blue-Jay has died.
Jason hasn't been around DU lately because he had health problems after suffering a stroke. He had been a member of DU for many years and was noted for his sigline photo of Dubya with a giant squirrel.
He had recently had another stroke, went from the hospital to rehab and then home. We were Facebook friends and he had stopped posting there several weeks ago. Apparently, he had yet another stroke.
I don't have many details, but will post more when I get more information.
greatauntoftriplets

(223,146 posts)Thanks for getting this taken care of, DUers will want to know - they were both members of this community. I often wonder about those who disappear and we never know why. TAB is likely gone from us and newyawker99 just disappeared. Those two long-time and active DUers come to mind...

Rhiannon12866
(223,146 posts)But I agree that there are a lot of DUers who are FFR. They used to be able to come back after the hides expired. And I have to say I'm still on a lot of juries.
greatauntoftriplets
(176,927 posts)I'm on 2 -3 juries a day.
Rhiannon12866
(223,146 posts)And I have noticed that a whole lot of missing DUers last posted mid 2016. There are times I've gotten aggravated, but I still remember Skinner's advice - just take a break. It's a message board, we may have long memories, but the board still moves pretty fast. I do wish we could still lock the train wrecks, though. Those are the ones I get called on juries for.
