Toxicology tests to determine if dog was poisoned at UK show

LONDON (AP) The organizer of Britain's biggest dog show says an investigation is under way regarding claims that a dog which competed at the annual Crufts show has died after being poisoned.
The Kennel Club said Sunday it was "deeply shocked and saddened" upon hearing reports that 3-year-old Irish Setter Thendara Satisfaction, known as Jagger, had been poisoned at the world famous show. The setter's co-owner told the publication Dog World that the animal collapsed upon returning to Belgium after competing.
Kennel Club Secretary Caroline Kisko said the dog died some 26 hours after leaving Crufts and "that the toxicology report is due next week and until that time we cannot know the cause of this tragic incident."
The club has been in touch with the owners and has offered sympathies.

Who would do this to any animal?

(14,733 posts)Someone who saw 'Jagger' as a serious threat to their own dog's chances?
Or, more likely, someone who simply set something down where the dog could eat it that contained something dogs shouldn't eat, like xylitol in some chewing gums. I'd guess carelessness over evil intent.

(9,958 posts)With all the commotion going on, it's hard to keep dogs away from something they want to eat.
Intentionally poisoning dogs is a despicable act, if that is what happened.

(198 posts)....and can't get much info from the news article, but am wondering why they suspect poisoning, and not some other sudden health issue, like a stroke or undetected heart condition? Also wondering, if it was poisoning ( since toxicology reports aren't back ) why it's not possible that the "poisoning" happened somewhere else on the route back home?

The vet thought it was suspicious, so carried out an autopsy," she said. "They found cubes of beef in his stomach that had at least two types of poison inside. Pieces of beef had been stitched together so that the poison didn't come out.
"He had enough in his system to kill a horse, according to the vet," said Millington-Bott, who is at a loss to explain why Jagger was targeted: "We can't fathom why anyone would do this."

(14,807 posts)Maybe there is a pattern. It is awful in any case and I hope somehow they find who did this and prosecute them.

(14,733 posts)So it was evil, not accident. I certainly hope they can figure out who did it, but I doubt they will. I can't imagine enough effort being put out by police as they would with a human murder.
