New owner reaches deal with union at Williamsville nursing home

Source: Buffalo News

By Stephen T. Watson

The incoming owner of St. Francis of Williamsville has agreed to preserve 102 jobs at the nursing home and to start negotiating a new contract with the union representing the workers once it takes control of the facility on Sunday.

As part of the agreement reached Friday between Comprehensive Healthcare Management Services and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the union chapter will hold off on issuing the strike notice its members approved last month.

A representative of 1199SEIU said the deal met all of the union’s terms and he believes the threat of a strike convinced the new owner to come to the table.

“I think, if nothing else, it got their attention,” said Todd Hobler, an 1199SEIU vice president.
