In Documentary, Robert Durst Says He ‘Killed Them All’

Source: New York Times

Since his first wife vanished more than three decades ago, Robert A. Durst, the eccentric and estranged son of one of New York’s most prominent real estate dynasties, has lived under the suspicious gaze of law enforcement officials in three states.

On Sunday night, in the final moments of the final episode of a six-part HBO documentary about him, “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” Mr. Durst seemed to veer toward a confession that could lift the shroud of mystery that surrounds the deaths of three people over the course of three decades.

“What the hell did I do?” Mr. Durst whispers to himself in an unguarded moment caught on a microphone he wore during filming. “Killed them all, of course.”

It was chilling. I guess the guy had such a big ego that he would agree to be interviewed by the film makers and allow himself to be asked blunt questions about the people he allegedly murdered.

I don't know if he: 1)Had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the bathroom; however,

2)That statement is admissible as an exception to the hearsay rule called "Admissions against self-interest".

He "accidently" shot his neighbor in Texas then admitted dismembering him and he was acquitted?

but I think the real issue is our desperately unequal so-called "justice" system: if you have enough money, even dismemberment isn't sufficient to convict you (iirc, he didn't accidentally shoot the neighbor, it was "self-defense&quot .

the documentary didn't mention the Asperger's part in the documentary but he was officially diagnosed, the attorneys over-and-over beat the "proof beyond a reasonable doubt", the detective answered question "no" saying he didn't find anything that disproved self-defense. It was more he was trying to wrestle the gun, both fell to the ground and the gun went off. Whether I think it is true or not isn't the point. He took the stand and had a very good theory which would explain his behavior, based on the women dead in New York he felt the police wouldn't believe him so he went to those lengths.

correct verdict, meaning the poor are all judged wrong, or it gets you the wrong verdict. Either way, it's a corruption of the Justice system.

They had a fight and he shot him in self-defense.

(In reality, I think the loser neighbor attempted to black mail him, and he killed him, but there was, alas, no evidence to back up my theory.)

It was really, really clever and well-thought out how his lawyers blamed the dismemberment all on Faux-News witch Jeannine Pirro.

The case in LA is going to be weak, too. All they have is a letter. The tape can be interpreted many ways.

The trial was in Galveston, fifty miles south of Houston.

His lawyers were Dick deGuerin and Mike Ramsey. The Jinx said that he paid Dick deGuerin $1.6 million dollars.

The cities are all pretty far apart. Except that Austin and San Antonio are about 80 miles apart, and all the others are a lot further.

It's 800 miles from El Paso on the western border with New Mexico to Orange on the eastern border with Louisiana.

Houston to Dallas: 250

Houston to Austin: 180

Houston to San Antonio: 200

Houston to New Orleans: 350

Houston to Brownsville: 350

Houston to El Paso: 700

Houston to Amarillo: 600

He wound up in San Diego as a member of the Navy.

He told me when he went home for visits, he took him two days: Day 1 from San Diego to El Paso, then Day 2 from El Paso to Houston.

I knew Texas was a huge state but the thought of driving entirely in Texas the second day after driving through California, Arizona, and New Mexico for first day really put it in perspective!

temporarily off the streets, I can't believe tape from an HBO special can be considered overwhelming evidence. Who knows what was scripted vs. unscripted, etc. I think it will take more than that to get a conviction.

That said I followed along when the trial was happening in Galveston (close to Houston - it was in the Chron all the time) and he was very lucky to be able to afford the lawyers he had. Along the way not only Asperger's but also drug use and he has always been very, very wealthy. It is too bad that despite all that money his family was unable to get better psych care for him when he was younger.

After he killed his neighbor , did the dead man attack him, so he had to dismember him ? Oh these elites, how they lie, it must be bred into them.
