Sen. Bo Watson slams VW over labor policies, UAW recognition

NASHVILLE -- Top Volkswagen officials came under harsh questioning Tuesday from a Chattanooga Republican lawmaker who charged that the German auto manufacturer is a "magnet for organized labor, intentionally."
During a Senate Commerce Committee hearing on the state Economic and Community Development's budget, which includes $165.8 million in proposed state incentives to the company, Sen. Bo Watson, R-Hixson, repeatedly drilled David Geanacopoulos, Volkswagen America's general counsel, about its labor policies.
Watson said the incentives for Volkswagen "will give Southeast Tennessee a big foothold in the automotive industry particularly in research and development and ... development of a new line of VW vehicles" -- a planned SUV.
"However, Mr. Chairman and committee members," Watson said, "VW is a magnet for organized labor, intentionally."

(24,683 posts)And has the door is hitting you in the proverbial butt, take this simple fact with you, when a majority 50+1 say they want representation that is called a democracy.
And since you have a disdain for this concept of representation then resign.
And the way you got to your position to spew your hate and fear is that you got there by the millionaires and the billionaires and your sucker base, who (millionaires and billionaires) play along only think about there tax cuts and the base who haven't figured it out yet, that they are the next ones to get there social programs cut by your ilk to support the millionaires and the billionaires, while your right wing political agenda is to thrown out privacy rights, wage increases, health care issues, whine about the lack of christen values, union representation, attack public education, red meat to the suckers.
And by the way the Volkswagen business model demands the there be union representation in the board room, that really makes your right wing work for less hypocrisy of blood boil does it not, the worker having a VOICE, in the work place.
And by the way the right wing mantra of "right to work" was started by a racists

We sure wouldn't want to pay American autoworkers as much as German automakers earn, would we Sen. Watson? What an idiot!
I wonder if he would care to speculate on which country has a healthier middle class. And Germany manufactures twice as many cars per capita than the US makes. (The US is 4 times bigger than Germany but produces just twice as many vehicles.) It exports almost 3 times as many cars as the US does despite higher autoworker pay in Germany.
