Kraft issues big Mac & Cheese recall, metal pieces reported

Source: Fortune

Recall comes at a time when Kraft’s Macaroni & Cheese products, a staple for generations of American children, face increasing competition.

Kraft Foods KRFT -2.10% said on Tuesday it was recalling about 242,000 cases of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinners, due to the risk that they may contain small pieces of metal.

The recall comes at a time when Kraft’s Macaroni & Cheese products, a staple for generations of American children, face increasing competition from smaller brands with more natural ingredients.

And, it follows a similar recall less than four years ago.

FULL story at link.

Dry pasta is easily available as is a good melting cheese of your choice. Making a thin white sauce, and/or heavy cream add cheese to cooked macaroni.. Dinner side is done.

Just try lobster mac- n- cheese! This can be done at home.

A lot of boxed mac and cheese is made either by or for kids.

If you have the skills and the time, home made is certainly better, but dissing people who don't have the time or skills says more about you than them.

Baked macaroni and cheese....made a white roux sauce with onions and lots of pepper, buttered a Pyrex baking dish, boiled up the macaroni half way cooked...mixed it in the white sauce and made alternating layers of extra sharp cheddar cheese and macaroni. Added half and half then baked it.

Another easy way is to boil macaroni, drain, add butter, salt, pepper to taste, splash of half and half and cheese whiz....its real creamy too..

The current box mac-n-cheese choice is contaminated and has been recalled. Discussing alternative simple and common methods of producing a side dish does not rise to the level of your rude insults.

Otherwise, they would all buy the perishable items on a regular basis and take the time and effort to make your superior mac and cheese.

Clearly you are having a bad day...move along now....

Or, maybe go watch Food Network or visit our Cooking and Baking Forum if you wish to expand your knowledge base with meal preparation. If you feel inadequate to discuss a simple side dish ....that is not my problem. Your insults are becoming tiresome.

Good luck with your culinary growth.

by their bootstraps, educate themselves, find the time to make superior homemade versions.

The millions of people that eat boxed dinners each day would be much better off if they could just find the way to do things the way a mere handful of people with the proper resources do. Silly 99%ers, don't they ever listen to their betters?

Shred a lb of old cheddar and spread it out on the counter to dry out over night then freeze it.

Cook macaroni add 1oz of cream and a small tab of salted butter. Throw in a 1/4 cup of the frozen shredded cheddar and away you go.

Just kidding, of course.

But seriously, when you read of how massive the recall is, how many boxes of this stuff was foisted out on North and Central and South America and the islands, without any proper quality control. Massive production of something with minimal nutritious value, (not that I think even home-made Macaroni and Cheese is really a wise and reasonable choice for diet ever), but they produce this junk by the millions of boxes a week, send it out, we are supposed add hot water, maybe milk and eat it?

Damn, if we're going to allow production and distribution of this stuff in the USA, at least have 10-15 small manufacturing plants that produce it, don't get millions of people infected within one month.

I'm sure they'll get over this bump and the added publicity will eventually give them a bigger market share. I wish they'd come out with a version that made me feel better about the foodie-ness of the product.
