Obama administration rejects Netanyahu backtrack on two-states

Source: ToI

Officials in Washington quickly made it clear that they were not buying into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayhu’s about face on support for a two-state solution Thursday, repeating statements that they would re-evaluate their approach to the peace process.

Netanyahu seemingly attempted to mend ties with Washington by walking back a pre-election promise not to support a Palestinian state, but spokespeople in the White House and State Department did not express any sentiments welcoming Netanyahu’s assurances that he continued to support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu was the prime minister three days ago as well,” responded State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki tohis Thursday assurances. “We believe he changed his position three days ago.”

On Monday, the day before the elections, Netanyahu was asked by an interviewer from Israel’s NRG website about policy on the Palestinians and said: “Anyone who is going to establish a Palestinian state, anyone who is going to evacuate territories today, is simply giving a base for attacks to the radical Islam against Israel. This is the true reality that was created here in the last few years.” Asked in a follow-up if it was true that no Palestinian state would be established during his premiership if he were re-elected, he answered: “Indeed.”

You know, Netanyahu just went up a notch in my estimation. He pretty much means, in a campaign you say anything to win. Then, the campaign is over, back to business as usual.

I respect the truth. Maybe we aren't as sophisticated and worldly as the Israelis, and Europeans. We take our politicians at their word, and then watch as they do exactly the opposite, but we call it "pants on fire" and act all innocent and naïve.

Netanyahu doesn't bat an eye.

Grow up, America. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

5. His actions when either Mitchell or Kerry worked for a 2 state solution

Mar 2015

are more in line with what he said Monday than what he said today.

In fact, I think the WH should respond that they want to see his plan - including his proposed borders and the conditions he would require. This game of pretending that he wants a 2 state solution if only someone else defined a perfect on is getting very old.

There IS an Arab proposal -- and until today there is no Israeli one.

Netanyahu did not really go down much in my estimation of him on Monday -- because he was already roughly the same level as where I place Cheney. Not much downward space available. It is more likely that his true intentions are what he said Monday - as it matches his actions against anyone working for a Palestinian state.

His actions in office match what he said in the campaign. Perfectly.

He's unmasked his true agenda, and he's not getting off the hook without taking some pretty dramatic actions to show he's telling the truth now.

Yallerdawg,

With respect Netanyahu may have been playing politics, but by playing to fear of Arabs he has increased the sense of division in the region. Should the embattled leaders in Syria, Turkey, and Yemen now say to their people "We are moving toward accepting ISIS and radical Islam - because if we don't then the Jews will win"? The way Netanyahu won will have consequences for the region and Israel.

It's time to exert a little control over the mad man of Israel. If we are sending millions to them every year, they ought to be cooperating, not telling US what to do!

You're kidding, of course.
Have you forgotten how fast our politicians backtracked and are all
still backtracking as fast as their feet can shuffle in the case of
the 1967 USS Liberty "incident"??? Why good ole LBJ backtracked so fast and so completely he burned rubber all the way to the Oval Stall. As did, and have to this day, every one of our pols in patriotically covering up the above top secret "incident". With holy friends like sacred Israel, who needs enemies?? Our AIPAC-intimidated pols have never dared miss religiously paying out obligatory annual tributes of billions in "foreign aid" to sacred Israel, never even threatened to suspend a single payment, through thick and thin, fat and lean.
Read em and weep.... but keep paying tribute....

There is a fictional novel on the top 20 list right now called "Twelve Days" about a well-connected Jewish-American businessman and a plot to get the United States to attack Iran. Too close to the truth, right down to Bibi's American friends.

16. Netanyahu Now Says He Was Only Kidding About No Palestinian State, Obama Unimpressed

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied rejecting the eventual creation of a Palestinian state, backing away from pre-election comments that deepened a rift with Israel's ally the United States.

On the eve of this week's general election, Mr Netanyahu ruled out the establishment of the Palestinian state if he was re-elected.

But the White House, unmoved by Mr Netanyahu's post-election effort to backtrack, delivered a fresh rebuke against the Israeli leader and signalled that Washington may reconsider its long-standing policy of shielding Israel from international pressure at the United Nations.

"I haven't changed my policy. I never retracted my speech in Bar-Ilan University six years ago calling for a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes the Jewish state," Mr Netanyahu said in an interview with MSNBC two days after winning the bitterly contested election.

"What has changed is the reality," Mr Netanyahu said, citing the Palestinian Authority's refusal to recognise Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people and the Hamas militant group's continued control of the Gaza Strip.
