NH Republicans deliver a rough message to 4th graders

Source: MSNBC

Fourth graders from Lincoln Akerman School in Hampton Falls received a warm welcome at the State House last Thursday. They and their teacher, James Cutting, were guests in the Gallery.

That reception quickly turned chilly as students got a glimpse of the cold, harsh realities of politics in the Granite State.

The idea seemed pretty straightforward. The fourth-grade class, made up of 9-and-10-year-olds from the Southeast corner of the state, worked on a proposal to make the Red Tail Hawk the official State Raptor of New Hampshire. The kids and their teacher brought their proposal to the state capitol, and it was approved by the Environment and Agriculture Committee.

But as the report from NH1.com’s Shari Small makes clear, on the floor of the state House, the children ran into unexpectedly fierce Republican opposition. The kids heard one GOP lawmaker argue, for example, in reference to the Red Tail Hawk, “It grasps them with its talons then uses its razor sharp beak to basically tear it apart limb by limb, and I guess the shame about making this a state bird is it would serve as a much better mascot for Planned Parenthood.”

I have read people here talk about how great they will think Obama was when reading history books down the road.

I am thinking about 3 generations from now they will be so busy spitting on our collective memories, and the thought that we just kept burning, and burning, and burning, even after we knew we were gonna burn ourselves up, that little will be made of the individuals and institutions who didn't stop it, regardless of who they are or are not.

By that time power will likely have shifted from our dirty little hands, however, so it likely won't matter much, and we will be broken financially anyway.

Someone on a distant planet might look this way and think "buncha maroons".

23. Psychopath and Sociopath
Thu Mar 19, 2015, 09:54 PM
Mar 2015

The common features of a psychopath and sociopath lie in their shared diagnosis — antisocial personality disorder. The DSM-5 defines antisocial personality as someone having 3 or more of the following traits:

1 - Regularly breaks or flaunts the law

2 - Constantly lies and deceives others

3 - Is impulsive and doesn’t plan ahead

4 - Can be prone to fighting and aggressiveness

5 - Has little regard for the safety of others

6 - Irresponsible, can’t meet financial obligations

7 - Doesn’t feel remorse or guilt

Symptoms start before age 15, so by the time a person is an adult, they are well on their way to becoming a psychopath or sociopath.

It describes members of elected GOPers to a T.

This is a guy who went to a Christian high school and a podunk 700-student "Christian" college, which specializes in bachelor degrees in bible studies.

As far as the legislature, I blame the teacher for even taking the kids there. Back in the 19th Century in some sophisticated cities in Europe, it was quit common for the genteel folk to go down to the local insane asylum, where they would amuse themselves by watching the inmates howling and screaming. Sometimes, they would even bribe the attendants to get the inmates riled up for further amusement.

The NH legislature is a lot like that asylum. It has an inordinate number of members, given the population of the state. Representatives get $200 for a two-year term, but the house only meets for a few months a year. Unlike other legislatures, you can't make a living at it. Consequently, it attracts a fair number of cranks, crackpots, ideologues with another income stream and nothing better to do. I would take children to a porn theater before I would take them to the NH State House -- and I would never take them to a porn theater.
