Republicans Introduce Bill Aimed at Preventing Israel Boycotts

Source: Daily Foward

Under the Boycott Our Enemies, Not Israel Act introduced Wednesday by Reps. Doug Lamborn of Colorado and Ron DeSantis of Florida, prospective contractors with the U.S. government would be required to certify that they are not participating in any boycotts against Israel. The bill also includes penalties for false certification, including permanently banning a company from doing business with the government.

“Our government business practices should not play any role in harming our greatest ally in the Middle East,” Lamborn said in a statement, adding that the bill was introduced to “thwart efforts by Palestinian organizations to pressure different corporations, companies and educational institutions to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel.”

“The BDS movement represents a disgraceful attempt to single out Israel for punitive treatment,” he said.

Another act sponsored by the "get the guv'mint out of business" people. How the hell does a corporation boycott a country? Does that mean every company must somehow prove they are a friend of Israel before being allowed to bid on a government contract?

Or is that ALEC? Or NRA or RWIG (RW Interest Group).

Since it's close to tax time, I've been wondering where I report stacks of greenbacks delivered in a suitcase to my back door. Not that I have to worry, but shouldn't all those bribe takers think about their exit lines when they are accused?

Here is the latest I could find on it.. 1/9/15

Knesset report: BDS movement has no impact on economy
Finds exports to Europe have doubled since launch of BDS movement.

The global movement to boycott the Israeli economy is having no discernible impact even though Israel’s export-dependent economy is vulnerable, the Knesset Research and Information Center said in a report released on Wednesday.

The report noted that the boycott comprised several components, including the long-standing boycott by the Arab League and efforts by the European Union to dent the customs exemptions and other benefits of the free-trade agreement with Israel to the West Bank settlements.

But the report, which the Knesset research body prepared at the behest of Finance Committee chairman Nissan Slomiansky, focused on the global boycott, sanctions and divestment (BDS) movement, which coalesced in 2005 and has had its strongest influence in Europe.

The research center found that Israel’s merchandise exports to the European Union had nearly doubled since 2005. In the decade before, they averaged $7.8 billion annually, and in the nine years that followed they averaged $15.6 billion, despite a sharp drop in 2009 due to the world financial crisis.

U.S. lawmakers introduce legislation to prevent Israel boycotts

It's called treason. And since I don't believe in the death penalty, I suggest an alternative punishment. Put them on a stage, make them drop trou and give them 50 lashings with a cane. One for each state.

I'm sure they would not say it was having an effect. I just do my small part by buying nothing with Israel connections.
