Christie endorses 20-week abortion ban

Source: The Hill

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a potential 2016 contender, on Monday endorsed a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

“I am proud to be a pro-life Republican. I believe that every life is an individual gift from God, and that no life is disposable,” Christie said in the statement to the Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion group.

A bill enacting such a ban, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, was abruptly pulled by House leaders in January after opposition from some female Republican lawmakers. The lawmakers criticized language they said only allowed exceptions for rape if the victim reports the crime to police.

Christie on Monday touted his credentials governing a blue state and urged lawmakers to take up the issue. “When I was preparing to run for Governor of New Jersey there were those who told me there was no way I would be elected as a pro-life candidate,” he said. “I told them that they were wrong, that the voters would accept the sincerity of my beliefs even if they felt differently. Today, I am a living example that being pro-life is not a political liability anywhere in America.

I say: If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. Other than that, don't try to pretend you're a doctor.

Oh, and if you really want to reduce abortions, start by totally funding all birth control, including emergency contraception, otherwise known as the morning after pill. And then fund pre-natal care for all women. Plus appropriate support as needed for the fetuses that become living children: food stamps, subsidized housing, day care for the children of working mothers, and so on.

Then you can have your 20 week ban. Wait. There are times a woman doesn't know there is something seriously wrong with the growing fetus until after 20 weeks. Okay. Just don't try to pretend you're a doctor.

August of Last year - Linda Stender called him out:

august 2014 - interview with Linda Stender

For the fifth year in a row, state funding for women’s health clinics has been cut — this time by $7.5 million. Six women’s health clinics that provided routine checkups and cancer screenings have closed. Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-22) told NJTV News Anchor Mary Alice Williams that the women’s heath clinics provide various services.

“These clinics provide basic health care to women,” said Stender. “Pap smears, breast exams, full gynecological exams. So they are, for many women, their primary health care.”

Stender said that in the past the clinics have provided services to neighborhoods that are not served by major hospitals or private doctors. According to Stender, the clinics provide access to affordable health care and that about six clinics have closed.

Since 1970, women’s health care centers have been funded, but recently Gov. Chris Christie said that the state cannot afford to fund the centers any more. Stender said that it doesn’t make sense.

This is Cory Booker - in 2012.

Cory Booker blasts Chris Christie for slashing funding to Planned Parenthood, causing a reduction in health services

By Bill Wichert on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 at 8:30 p.m.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker takes aim at Gov. Chris Christie for cutting funding for Planned Parenthood at this rally. Go to 2:20 to hear his comments.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker didn’t mention Gov. Chris Christie by name, but the Democratic leader took a shot at his Republican governor Tuesday for cutting funding for women’s health services.

Before the mayor made a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., Booker appeared at a Planned Parenthood rally and blasted the GOP for denying women access to health care.

"Now I want to be very clear. I come from a state where we’ve seen what Republican leadership will do to things like Planned Parenthood," Booker told the crowd, according to a video posted on YouTube. "We’ve seen it. The first budget that came out of our Republican leadership slashed funding to Planned Parenthood.

"It resulted in, it resulted in the reduction of hours, the elimination of days, elimination of access to women in my city and all over my state."

For the GOP, that means women "on their backs" doing the will of the man no matter what.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, only about 1 percent of abortions are performed after 20 weeks of gestation.

It's not like you have to pass a law to prevent rampant late abortions.

Governor Christie is just trying to get headlines. And look, he got 'em!
