Family history hounds Jeb Bush on campaign trail

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Washington Post

When Jeb Bush stepped up onto the fabled soapbox at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, fairgoers pelted him with questions about the legacy of his brother, a former president. And his father, another former president. And one of his foreign policy advisers, Paul D. Wolfowitz, the architect of his brother’s war in Iraq. And about the war itself.

Under a blazing sun, Bush expressed irritation with what he called “the parlor game” of focusing on Wolfowitz and other past Bush administration advisers who have resurfaced for this Bush campaign..... But over several days, it has become evident that his ideas on the subject are remarkably similar to George W. Bush’s ideas and that he firmly believes that Democrats — not his brother — deserve the blame for the unrest in Iraq and neighboring Syria.... According to Bush this week, the removal of Saddam Hussein from power “turned out to be a pretty good deal.” The 2007 troop surge was “an extraordinarily effective” strategy. By the time his brother left office, he said, the “mission was accomplished” in Iraq because security had been restored.

...

Most Americans still believe the Iraq war was a mistake and are opposed to new military engagement — making Jeb Bush’s approach to national security risky.

...

Jeb Bush would not say for certain whether he would preserve the executive order Obama signed banning enhanced interrogation. Later Thursday, he told reporters that he would not rule out using waterboarding during interrogations of terrorism suspects.

1. Next he'll be wearing flight suits when he says "mission accomplished"

Unbelievable that he would use those words. He does realize, doesn't he, that his brother George was sanitized from the past two Republican conventions? His brother became 'he who cannot be named' and who cannot even show his face on a stage in Republican politics. Whoever is really advising Jeb must be a liberal operative trying to destroy his campaign from within.

7. Does Jeb! really have a chance?

It seems to me that as the Republican primaries progress, the surviving candidates will be probing one another's weaknesses looking for ways to climb over one another. This is what's happened in recent presidential elections. Obviously, this is part of the process to reach the presidency. And because of its uncertainty, it's always a dangerous game, whether played by Republicans or Democrats.

Clearly, Governor Bush's family name will work against him. Even Republicans acknowledge this; why else didn't they invite President George W. Bush to speak at their conventions? Given that Governor Bush has availed himself of the advice of the neocons that gave us Iraq, Katrina and the catastrophic financial collapse, (to name only a few of the mistakes of President Bush's disastrous two terms), those are among the many failures that could be used by the other Republicans, especially the unrestrained Donald Trump, to attack and smear Governor Bush, weakening him. Obviously, those weapons would work for our side as well, should Governor Bush become the Republican nominee.

It has occurred to me that Governor Bush doesn't seem to have the fire in the belly to be president. It feels like it's expected that he's next in line, perhaps because of family pressure. His mistakes are amateurish and his positions are either outside the majority view of our country or poorly articulated featuring mis-spoken statements and many explanations where none should be needed. Since Mr. Trump is (presumably) unelectable, I'm much more concerned about Governor Walker, (maybe with Carly Fiorina as Veep?), since he has the Koch's support supplemented by the mainstream of the Republican party.

9. It's Been Decided For You

The military contractor run government aligned with Wall St has chosen Jeb and Hillary as the backup Democrat in case a Republican can't win. They and their heinous agenda have all sides covered. We would be fools to select either one of these nepotistic charlatans as a nominee.

10. Interesting observation.

He would have if it hadn't been for Trump unleashing himself on the GOP.
those Bush's are well seasoned in the gop political game and Jeb Bush or baby Bush as they say has been billed as a very good negotiator, savvy behind closed doors. That's how the gop billed Palin as the vice presidential pick ,you know, the deep meditated thinker. Well ah, off the rails she went and quick.

So Trump calls Bush a puppet ,a name no other candidate would dare use in public. Ronnie's Rules, those ten commandments.
So the game at play in the field this time round has no clear defining rules only the GOP elite can break when it,- they so choose.

So Trump to the gop is like an arsonist on the lose setting brush fires that continue to burn out of control.
Unelectable, I dono , Hillery said that about Obama ,then he went to win the nomination and on further to the presidency.
So what is unelectable ?

For sure Bush doesn't have the fire in his belly to out politician a self proclaimed politician who isn't held back speaking wise by restraints. OK.so how are they going to restrain Trump ? McCain called himself a maverick-what is an outsider ?
And where is a Bush a better deal maker and talker about himself doing it and having done it ?
In his state ? which one ? Texas,Florida, Conn. which or where ?

That's what is appealing about Trump to people that fallow his show.
Bush is a party preferred candidate, so yea, they want to get him in. He's there boy.

Fiornia is a nobody California voters issued walking papers to, but there is already a Walker walking with the dead end in site. Koch support ,that. Gee I dono I read where those Koch's are warming up to Trump, Do I believe that ?

The GOP's plan of attack,is under attack and damage control isn't working for the GOP. If it were not for Trump the GOP would ride the Hillery scandal scams right up to election day. You don't have to imagine how they would scam Sanders. Why, they would call Bennie a commie.

If there was clear sense to be made of it those journalists would be having a hay day with it. What yer seeing is them throwing up there hands saying ,this is unbelievable. That leaves them nothing to give you the reader.
Oh but speculation, what a game what game.

Well good, it's about time the media games gig is up.

With a perfectly leveled playing field ,yea Bush could win but it ain't gonna happen. What would appear to be perfectly leveled actually would be more like the gop's billiard table with a funny little unnoticeable warp in it in a place only the top favorite would know how to use to their advantage- rigged so the saying goes.

Isn't that how the republican party operates ?

How would Trump react if he were robbed by his party of choice or was being robbed ? Would he fold his cards and move on ?
You see the game that's on ?
