Romney Is Horrified by Trump — and That’s Restarting ‘Mitt 2016’ Talk
Source: New York magazine
As Donald Trump continues to dominate the Republican presidential race, frustration and panic have become high enough to make some inside the party Establishment pine for a candidate they roundly rejected as recently as January: Mitt Romney. Romney himself has become one of Trump’s most vocal detractors inside the party. “He’s someone to whom civility means a lot. The whole Trump thing really bothers him,” a close Romney adviser told me — and some Romney-ites are only too happy to talk up the prospect of their man jumping into the race if the Establishment fails to stop Trump, whose support in Iowa and New Hampshire is currently greater than Jeb Bush's, Scott Walker's, Marco Rubio's, Chris Christie's, and John Kasich's combined. “Mitt wants to run. He never stopped wanting to run,” a senior member of his 2012 team told me. Other Romney-ites, watching this cycle’s candidates falling short, feel a sense of vindication after all the attacks they endured after Romney's failed 2012 bid. "These guys like Walker and Perry, they were big deals in their states, but you get them onto the national stage and it's a different story," a former Romney adviser told me. "It's like they were in middle school, and now they're freshmen in high school and they're getting their faces slammed in the toilets." Another former Romney adviser complained about Bush's decision not to go all-in on New Hampshire, a state a moderate must win. "Romney did 100 town halls in New Hampshire from announcement to the primary. It's madness. Bush has done only 23." 4. So Mitt's big on civility
What he doesn't realize is that that's what republicans want. It's why Trump is ahead in the polls. The republicans created this monster called the Tea Party, and someone has come along that encapsulates their "ideals," and they're not going to want to back Mitt... He couldn't get rid of that uppity you-know-what in the White House. He failed them. He may not be the freshman in high school getting his face slammed in the toilet, but he's the guy whose Daddy's money got him on the football team who then choked causing them to lose homecoming. They're not going to want to let him back on the field.
You're welcome for the extension of the tortured high school analogy. TlalocW |

I think we all know Mittens wouldn't use his own $$ like the Donald is doing, and I think most of the "generous billionairs are already committed to the other candidates.

Surely you haven't already forgotten that with VERY little help from Obama, your previous presidential campaign platform came down to not being a black guy!

But I do wonder how much he wants to run vs how much Ann wants to be FLOTUS.
And speaking of tax returns, I can't wait to see Trump's. |

17. Willard Mitt Romney can invite Donald for a trip to Canada
Well he can do this before Walker builds a US/Canada wall. Then Mitt can strap Donald to the roof of his car. When the Donald soils himself he can spray him down with water and continue on to Canada. This should be enough for the Donald to run off into the forest and never be seen again.

27. Ah - the republican knight in shiny
armor - riding in to save the day...what can Romney offer NEW - that was rejected in 2012??
We need not become complacent just because the republican party is in such disarray - eye on the goal folk's..too much at stake for the Democratic Party, SCOTUS, Environment, economy, progress in recognition of ALL cultures and ethnicity, so much still needs to be accomplished, security at home and abroad - foreign affairs met with diplomacy, NOT the almighty MIC...domestic justice, net neutrality, education, freedom for women - imagine women are still fighting for their freedom in the 21st century... ![]() |

28. Correction: Mitt Romney didn't want to run for POTUS in 2012.
Running for POTUS is something that rich and powerful people do to keep them occupied. (And maybe Queen Ann had her hands in it...) But Romney never had the fire, the vision, the desire to get shit done for his country. For him, the presidency was just another collectors-item for the plutocrat who has everything.
A man without convictions, a man without fire, a man that sparks no fire, a man who didn't get the nomination on his own merits but because the alternatives were simply horrible. |

32. Willard had his chance to denounce Trump
Back when Trump was engaged in racist birther-a-palooza.
Willard instead made a special flight to Vegas with Ann-toinette to accept his endorsement, where he said he was "proud and honored" to stand with him. ![]() He then invited Trump to the convention and commissioned him to make some lame video for the delegates. So, fuck you, Mitt. You loved this guy when he was spreading racist tin foil lies about your opponent. No one believes you now. |

35. Titillating but way too much to hope for, imo.
Best we can hope for is that Mitt throws everything he has into support for one candidate who then proceeds to fall flat on his face.
