Watch the ad that tells Jeb Bush his brother didn't keep America safe
Source: Vox.com
Jeb Bush got thunderous applause from the Republican audience at last week's presidential primary debate when he said his brother, former President George W. Bush, "kept us safe."
But he's about to get something very different from a liberal outside group called Americans United for Change: An ad reminding him that his brother was president during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the US, the American invasion of Iraq, the failed federal response to Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 financial crisis.
...
"Its as if Jeb Bush believes his brothers presidency began on September 12th, 2001. But were not letting Jeb rewrite history," Brad Woodhouse, the president of AUC, said. "Its convenient but not honest to ignore the facts that the worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor happened on George W. Bushs watch after dismissing warnings from U.S. intelligence officials weeks before 9/11 that Osama bin Laden was determined to strike in US and that his terrorist network might hijack American planes."
...
AUC says the ad will start running Monday on cable television across the nation.

God, I wish someone like Bernie Sanders could be elected. He just doesn't care what others think about him. He would actually fight Congress to get his bills passed.

The truth is, a politician is either fighting for the middle class and those who are even poorer or fighting against us.
If they are fighting against us you have to wonder why.... We must have a lot of potential power.
Let's not get fooled again.

(4,229 posts)It was really masterful how Bush presided over the largest terrorist attack on the US ever and managed to manipulate the media and democrats into not really criticizing him for it and even turned it into a political plus.
However he was overconfident and used the confidence of the US people and lack of oversight he got from the media into the Iraq war.
But look at the Benghazi thing to see what would have happened if the shoe was on the other foot. If a dem had presided over a large terror attack, a war, and a financial collapse the GOP could have parlayed that into probably 20 years of GOP rule.

(50,983 posts)The media is totally complicit. The Fairness Doctrine existed for a reason. A very good reason. They had a ten year plan to gain control of the media. We're fucked until we fix the damage they have done. We must have an equal and opposite media presence some how. The internet is keeping us alive.

(16,254 posts)It should have been done in the last two elections, as well. My head would have felt a lot better if I hadn't been banging it against the nearest wall so often.
People are working too hard to keep their heads above water, so they read headlines and listen to sound bytes, which we know are sadly lacking in the truth. All these issues need to be condensed down to get our point across and maybe be shocking enough that they get the air time needed to deprogram some of these people who have been given the wrong "facts and figures". It's an uphill battle, but I'm sure it can be done.
Good show!

(3,578 posts)It should have mentioned the number of foreign intelligence services warning for months of the type of attack we faced on 9/11.
It should have mentioned the number of people who perished in the three attacks and how their surviving family members might beg to differ.
It should have mentioned the number of anthrax episodes and deaths related to them.
It should have mentioned how many Benghazi-like events happened to our foreign service on his brother's watch and how many Americans were killed.
And it should have ended with the tagline, "His brother kept us safe? Who the hell does Jeb Bush think he's fooling?"
Get rid of the introspective piano soundtrack and replace it with an ominous, single note that builds to a crescendo at the end. I don't want people to feel sad or wistful. I want them pissed off. Always mention the number of attacks, always mention the number of Americans killed. Pound those facts into people's heads and call Bush out on his bullshit. Don't play nice, don't play coy, just go for his fucking jugular.

(9,314 posts)I was immediately disappointed when I saw the ad. My first take was it just went to easy on Bush.* Clinton verbally warned Bush* about Osama bin Laden as he was leaving the Oval Office. I think a very stark mention of the fact that Bush* was handed intelligence warning that said bin Laden was determined to attack the U.S. and ignored that warning should have been more forcefully presented. Yes, the loss of jobs was bad, but that very day 9/11/2001 was on the Bush* watch, regardless of how long he had been in office, and the failure to stop it lies on his shoulders.

(11,084 posts)I thought as a Republican pro-war type he would say something about terrorism, maybe accuse Clinton of being soft on terrorists, during his campaign or early in his presidency. But no, he didn't, not until that evening. his "terrorism task force" never had any meetings. Only low level staffers wasted their time on the subject and could never get senior administration officials to pay any attention. They never did anything in response to the attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Seeing the World Trade Center collapse is what it took for him to take terrorism seriously.
I don't know if Bush could have done anything to prevent the 9/11 attacks. But I do know he didn't even try.

(56,828 posts)the anthrax attacks took place AFTER 9/11. Much of America was terrorized by them.
the DC Sniper was a self-proclaimed terrorist as well - and that was AFTER 9/11. They had the DC area terrorized for weeks.
Not to mention the nearly monthly attacks on family planning clinics around the nation as well during the Bush years.
