Home at last: missing baby Rainn found sleeping in field

Source: CS Monitor

By Lonnie Shekhtman

Two-year-old Rainn Peterson, who had been missing all weekend from her great-grandparents house in Ohio, was found Sunday evening alive and well, sleeping in a nearby field.

A volunteer who was riding around in the field on his four-wheeler found her, telling 911 on the phone, "I found baby Rainn and she's alive!" She was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The field where she was found is about half a mile from where she had been reported missing on Friday, from her great-grandparents house in North Bloomfield. She was staying there with her two brothers, ages 3 and 4, while her mother, Brandi Peterson, was moving into an apartment.

Ms. Peterson said her grandmother was in the kitchen and the three children were with her grandfather in another area of the house when the toddler walked away.

FULL story at link.

people showed up to search and they could not find him. Turns out that they thought he was too young to climb a fence so they did not search beyond it. At night most of them went home. And one man went over the fence. He found the boy huddled down just beyond the fence crying. He was terrified of all the people who were searching for him. So he was hiding.

My brother went missing when he was three. We were on a picnic with another family, and he just took off. It was scary because we were along a river.

He was discovered just before dark, in a cemetery, miles away. Some people there heard him crying. All he was saying was, "Picnic, picnic." Park rangers brought him back.

No one could figure out how such a little boy got so far away.

The incident was all over the local Facebook community pages.

When little Miss Peterson was found, naturally there was an avalanche of "Thank God" and "praise His mercy" posts. Hey, as long as she's ok, then these bystanders can thank whichever supernatural force appeals to them, but I wish that the natural efforts of the human searchers were praised as passionately as the deity who allowed her to get lost in the first place.

YMMV.

so I knew he would not go out or get into something he shouldn't if I didn't have my eyes on him. Even with that, I was cleaning the fridge and he was right beside me when he got into some Ajax cleanser---which was up on the counter--- for a taste while my back was turned. Luckily it tasted so bad he probably didn't swallow much, according to the ER doc who saw him.
