Congressman John Lewis Endorses Hillary Clinton

Source: NBC News

Congressman John Lewis will back Hillary Clinton's run for the White House.

"As our former Secretary of State, Senator from New York, and first Lady of the United States, Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person to be President of the United States," said Congressman Lewis in a statement released Wednesday by the campaign.

"I know her heart. We need her leadership, not just here in America, but all over the world. She is tireless in her advocacy for those who have been left out and left behind. She is ready to be President on day one. Hillary Clinton has my wholehearted endorsement, and I plan to work and campaign for her to see that she is elected the next President of the United States."

The civil rights legend first endorsed Clinton's historic candidacy in October 2007, but then shifted his support to back Barack Obama by February 2008.

My former Congressman is a great and wise man.

He previously endorsed her in 2013 as well:

John Lewis: I'm for Hillary Clinton in 2016

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said Tuesday that he would support Hillary Clinton if she runs for the White House in 2016.

The civil rights icon made waves during the 2008 Democratic primary when he switched his support from Clinton to President Obama but made clear in a recent interview that his support for the former secretary of State remains strong.

“I won’t make an endorsement, but I will say this: If she makes a decision to run, I would be with her,” Lewis told The New York Times.

“I think today she is the most qualified person in America to be president. No one has worked so hard or done a more effective job in representing this country as secretary of State in modern times.”

No politicians endorsement will sway me. He couldve been offered something and I will never ever vote for anyone as intimate with the Bush Family as her...no brainer...I cant believe how many fellow democrats have been hoodwinked into assuming Hillary isnt a surrogate for Bush Sr and Co.

It's amazing how people will cling to a sinking ship. I like Lewis. But I like my mother too. She would endorse me for president. People support their friends. I'm supposed to base my vote on that because you say so? I don't think politics is YOUR strong suit. I won't vote for Hillary because she is a liar. That's why she is such good friends with the Bush family.

I've had my taste of phoney profiles here and trust me I'm not one. I'm just saying endorsements matter little these days as the system is lacking credibility as a whole. I would never tear down Hillary unless I truly believed she was rotten to the core and I do. She is in deep with the Bush family and if everyone knew to what extent then I believe their would be actual hearings and trials for both these families.

even one that you don't support, a Nazi "collaborator" is the path to electing Bernie Sanders to the WH you need to do some re-thinking.

I'm pretty sure Bernie himself would distance himself from any supporter who publicly made such a charge.

All I said is I want someone in the White House who will genuinely care for the interests of the American people as opposed to those of Wall Street and the Military Industrial Complex. Honestly, the nazi thing never even came to mind. I don't believe that of Clinton at all, but I do believe that she is at heart a neoliberal - well, maybe not at heart, but she is definitely beholden to that group.

But she's not and never has been a nazi collaborator.

Geez.

even one who isn't my first choice for President, a Nazi collaborator. The only way Bernie wins is to attract support from Clinton supporters and calling her a Nazi collaborator is exactly not how to do that. And Bernie supporters should be quick to call out anyone who thinks they're helping his cause by demonizing Clinton or her supporters in such a fashion.

I personally don't think so, but others have made that contention on multiple occasions - if you support Sec Clinton over Sen Sanders, you are an uninformed voter.

John Lewis is a great man and a great civil Rights leader but he is not infallible when it comes to political endorsements.

After all he endorsed Joe Lieberman in 2006: [link:http://lieberdem.blogspot.com/2006/07/john-lewis-endorsescampaigns-for-joe.html|
