Turkish President Warns Russia Over Trade Ties

Source: RFE/RL

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Russia that its military actions in Syria are endangering its economic interests in Turkey.

"Losing Turkey would be a serious loss for Russia," Erdogan was quoted as saying on October 8. He said Ankara could look elsewhere for gas supplies and cancel the construction of its first nuclear power plant, which is being built by Russia.

Russia is Turkey’s main gas supplier and analysts say that breaking Turkish dependence on Russian energy supplies was a near impossible task.

The comments come amid tensions with Moscow over Turkish airspace violations by Russian warplanes and Russia's air campaign in Syria to prop up the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

You were saying, Erdogan? Did you take a break from bombing Kurds to utter those words?

The link shows this, but its nice to know the information source upfront for the casual browser.

Personally, I trust Radio Free Europe to accurately present the US governments take on any given issue. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes me consider the news articles to be partly opinion pieces. That goes triple for RT (Russia Today) the Russian state owned "news" outlet.
