Michigan woman charged in shots fired at shoplifters

Source: AP

By COREY WILLIAMS

DETROIT (AP) — A suburban Detroit woman is facing firearms charges after authorities say she shot at an SUV's tire to stop two shoplifters fleeing a Home Depot parking lot.

Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez of Clarkston was charged Tuesday with one count of reckless use, handling or discharge of a firearm, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said.

The charge is a misdemeanor and carries a 90-day jail sentence upon conviction.

The shooting occurred Oct. 6 in Auburn Hills, northwest of Detroit. The shoplifters got away, but two men were arrested a few days later and charged with retail fraud.

FULL story at link.

idiotic Rambo mentality. You'd rather use your brain to get something done in a peaceful manner instead of escalating to deadly force for a low level property crime.

Darn you.

http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/cpl-holder-charged-after-shots-fired-at-auburn-hills-home-depot-shoplifters/35813934

"If this is proven, I find it very disturbing that someone would take out their gun in a busy parking lot and shoot at the tires of a passing car," said Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, in a news release. "Once fired, the bullet could have easily ricocheted or fragmented and injured or killed someone else. It would have been much more helpful for her to take out her cellphone and shoot pictures of the shoplifter’s license plate."

I live and work in the overall area ... I would like to see her face much stiffer penalties if she is convicted ... I have no doubt she will be convicted. Gun lovers and haters united on this issue and decried the abject stupidity and reckless endangerment of others

So you use the tools you have at hand, right?

Anyway, good that she's charged, and not over-charged (like with attempted murder).

She'll likely lose that Concealed Pistol License. She obviously slept during the training.

Gun nuts always say if a good guy had a gun, everyone should have a gun, If teachers had a gun If students had guns etc etc., BUT this women had a gun and in the heat of the moment missed the bad guy (or her target the tires) Could you imagine in the heat of the moment in a dark theater or classroom everyone pulling out a gun and shooting with bullets flying everywhere as they shoot in the heat of the moment not being trained or professionals.

No, more guns is not the answer.

That's the problem.

Once you purchase a gun to 'defend yourself' you're going to look at every possible opportunity to justify the purchase.

Because if you buy a gun and never use it, you pretty much have to admit you wasted your money.

And that's a hard thing to admit.

Whenever they start talking about a rush to buy guns in advance of a government crackdown (usually after a mass shooting) that never actually happens.

I imagine she could weather the fines and likely probation resulting from the charges, but I'm guessing the loss of her concealed weapon permit will devastate her.

True to Tea Bag form, I bet she calls this part of "Obama's plan to take away our guns". hahaha

I am surprised, totally.

It's good they confiscated her gun the day, after she tried to shoot at the truck as it drove away.

Hope this event will change her mind about the "wisdom" of dragging around a gun to shoot at other people who live on the planet, too.

Anybody who commits a crime in any way associated with a gun needs to be removed from society. It's our only means of protection from these psychos.
