Donald Trump to Host 'Saturday Night Live'
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Donald Trump has signed on to host the November 7 episode of "Saturday Night Live," NBC announced Tuesday.
The episode, which is one year and a day before the date of the 2016 presidential election, will mark the Republican candidate's second time as host. He hosted the April 3, 2004 episode of the late-night sketch series, which aired when he was still on NBC's reality series "The Apprentice." "Saturday Night Live's" November 7 episode also features musical guest Sia.
This news marks the second time NBC has reneged on its threats to sever ties with Trump after he made "derogatory" comments about immigrants when he announced his presidential campaign. The mogul appeared on the Sept. 11 episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," where he happily poked fun at himself but also dodged serious questions about his plans to carry out policies. The episode gave Fallon his highest Friday ratings in 18 months.
"Saturday Night Live" is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. The third episode of the season airs this weekend with host Tracy Morgan.

(note that Sharpton hosted in December 2003 during the early phases of the primary season; because he was qualified on the primary ballots in certain states (but fewer than 10), some affiliates in those states did not air that episode because it would have triggered equal opportunities obligations.

I'm guessing you're referring to the Communications Act's "equal opportunities" provision. At this early stage, it is far from clear that Trump (or anyone else) meets the definition in the FCC's rules of a legally qualified candidate whose "use" of the airwaves triggers the equal opportunities rule.
(a) A legally qualified candidate for public office is any person who:
(1) Has publicly announced his or her intention to run for nomination or office;
(2) Is qualified under the applicable local, State or Federal law to hold the office for which he or she is a candidate; and
(3) Has met the qualifications set forth in either paragraph (b), (c), (d), or (e) of this section.
(e) A person seeking nomination for the office of President or Vice President of the United States shall, for the purposes of the Communications Act and the rules thereunder, be considered a legally qualified candidate only in those States or territories (or the District of Columbia) in which, in addition to meeting the requirements set forth in paragraph (a) of this section:
(1) He or she, or proposed delegates on his or her behalf, have qualified for the primary or Presidential preference ballot in that State, territory or the District of Columbia; or
(2) He or she has made a substantial showing of a bona fide candidacy for such nomination in that State, territory or the District of Columbia; except, that any such person meeting the requirements set forth in paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section in at least 10 States (or 9 and the District of Columbia) shall be considered a legally qualified candidate for nomination in all States, territories and the District of Columbia for purposes of this Act.

(42,684 posts)All they said is that they were severing their business relationship with Trump, specifically citing the joint venture with Trump that put on the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants. Trump had already announced he wasn't going to participate in the Apprentice and NBC said that Celebrity Apprentice would be unaffected.
