Sweden struggles to cope with migrant tide; Orban warns of threat

Source: Reuters

Sweden said on Thursday it expected up to 190,000 migrants this year, putting unprecedented strain on a country famous for welcoming refugees but planning to house many in tents this winter.

On the opposite pole of the angry debate on the migration crisis, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban urged European leaders to change their immigration policies and consult voters, saying they otherwise faced a threat to the democratic order.

Thousands of refugees continued to pour into Slovenia in the hope of reaching prosperous northern Europe, and the tiny country appealed for other European Union states to send police to help manage the flow.

Europe is struggling to cope with its biggest wave of migrants and refugees since World War Two. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 670,000 people have arrived by sea this year, fleeing war zones and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Once again, an article illustrating the difficulties the smaller (which also happen to be poorer) EU nations are having coping with the refugee crisis. Even prosperous and welcoming Sweden's social net is being strained by the numbers seeking asylum.

The US taxpayer foots the bill for what becomes the de facto military of the developed world, and nobody can tell the US Government no.

(and duking it out with the Ottoman Empire to grab more land and resources) created the unstable mess - pre and post WWI & WWII. Unfortunately the progeny of those "glorious colonists" are paying the price for their ancestors' greed and exploitation. America didn't try to "get theirs" until the mess was already in progress.

Migrants 'torch tents' in Slovenia camp

Tents have been torched at a transit camp in Slovenia, allegedly by migrants angry at how they are being treated.

They torched the tents at the camp in Brezice to protest at the slow process of registering them and moving them to the Austrian border, witnesses said.

They have also complained of a lack of food, water and blankets in the camp.
