Lincoln Chafee drops out of Democratic primary race

Source: CNN

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee ended his long-shot bid for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, he announced at a Washington event Friday.

"As you know I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace," Chafee said at the DNC's annual Women's Leadership Forum in Washington. "But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace."

The Democrat declared his presidential campaign in June, shortly after announcing that he had formed an exploratory committee.

Chafee has spent most of his life as a Republican. He was nominated to his late father's Senate seat in 1999 and then was elected as a Republican in 2000. He served only one term, losing to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in 2006, but then successfully ran for governor of Rhode Island as an independent.

It's very clear...there are only two real candidates, and the better one of them is Bernie.

She recalled when he converted to a Democrat and that he said the Republican party left him. He is a good man. But, not a President.

As a liberal Republican, Chafee was frequently ranked as the least conservative Senate Republican, and to the left of some conservative Democrats. He voted against Bush Tax cuts, opposed eliminating the estate tax, voted to increase the top federal income tax rate, voted against allowing drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, voted against the confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito, supported an increased minimum wage and was the only Republican Senator to vote against authorizing the use of force in Iraq. Chafee is pro-choice, supports same-sex marriage, affirmative action, gun control and federal funding for embryonic stem cell research and opposes the death penalty and a Flag Desecration Amendment to the United States Constitution.

He could have lived a life of luxury with his family wealth, but instead went into public service. Classics major at Brown, eventually left the republicans and joined the republican party. On a personal level I wish him well.

Aw, shucks, and just when I was beginning to Feel the Chafe . . .

But anyone who's platform was based in part on getting us to use the metric system is OK in my book.

Lincoln Chafee was educated at Providence Country Day School and Phillips Andover Academy, before graduating with a degree in Classics from Brown University. He then moved to Bozeman, Montana, studying to become a farrier at Montana State University, then working at harness racetracks in the United States and Canada.

There should me more time allotted for candidates to present their ideas and how they intend to implement them. We all know the problems and issues so stop regurgitating them. Just as important, continue to establish our superior ideology over the usual Republican drivel.

A good public servant. And a sane voice in the GOP who was left behind by his party. But he wasn't presidential material.

But I still want to thank him for his service.

Question: Will Hillary have anyone left to debate? Or will she just stand on the stage all by her little lonesome self?

I don't know his failings, but if I had to vote for three Dems on the debate stage, he'd be one of them.
