Mitt Romney: "Without Romneycare, I don’t think we would have Obamacare"
Source: Vox
On Friday, Mitt Romney made a startling statement to the Boston Globe's Taryn Luna: He argued that without "Romneycare," the universal health care plan he signed into law as Massachusetts governor, Obamacare would never have become law.
Speaking after the death of his friend and political ally Tom Stemberg, the founder of Staples, Romney said that Stemberg encouraged him to pursue health care reform. That, Romney argued, led indirectly to Obamacare. Moreover, Romney argues that's a good thing: "So, without Tom a lot of people wouldn't have health insurance."

Surprised that he's finally taking credit.

(23,292 posts)he would have been a total jackass if he caved to the teabaggers and got rid of it had he been (gasp) elected.

(1,807 posts)But pretty much was forced by his party to disown it -- I wonder if he regrets having to do that.

(7,358 posts)He's full of it. He never wanted it in the first place. He was forced into it as gov. of Mass. I'm not happy with ACA, we should of had a single payer health care system by now. Medicare does not pay but 80% and still leaves us hanging. We have no dental and no eye care. We're forced to pay out of pocket or buy into a supplemental health insurance. (I'm sure it was very well thought out by the insurance industry) I'm getting ready to cuss up a storm here so I'll stop venting. My doc by the way is ramping up charges to Medicare like crazy. Say for instance a $400. dollar regular office visit. And how about a bandage for $65 dollars? Yeah, and get this, I never needed nor asked nor got any such gauze bandage. They know Medicare is not going to shell out those kinds of bucks but they inflate prices so high before submitting them. We need a Medicare system but it's not sufficient enough for middle class and poorer folks. And like the ACA , we're still paying very costly premiums and out of pocket expenses. I say screw ''Romney Care'' and the ACA. So now everybody has insurance, great. but the insurance industry is still getting away with murder.
this is why I support Bernie Sanders and not Hillary Clinton.

(45,426 posts)and you've just listed some of the problems that we have with single payer fraud and abuse. Any attempts to reel in fraud and abuse will have conservatives screaming about soviet style rationing and death panels.
