Ben Carson Once Again Compares Something To Slavery, This Time Abortion
Source: Huffington Post
Dr. Ben Carson, the neurosurgeon-turned-insurgent presidential contender, compared abortion to slavery on Sunday, adding that he does not support exceptions for rape and incest when it comes to outlawing the practice.
"Think about this," he told "Meet the Press." "During slavery -- and I know that's one of those words you're not supposed to say, but I'm saying it -- during slavery, a lot of the slave owners thought that they had the right to do whatever they wanted to that slave. Anything that they chose to do. And, you know, what if the abolitionist had said, you know, 'I don't believe in slavery. I think it's wrong. But you guys do whatever you want to do'? Where would we be?"
Rising in the polls in Iowa -- with its deeply evangelical Republican caucus goers -- Carson called for overturning the Supreme Courts Roe v. Wade decision and only conceded that "there's room to discuss" an exception if the health of the mother was at stake. Below is the relevant transcript, pasted in full because his answers were often hard to tease out. . .

He's nuts. I respect his accomplishments, but go back to surgery. If you didn't see this today, read it at the link.

(8,200 posts)A basic tenant of the Seven Day Adventists church is that women must be subservient to their husbands. Therefore Carson when he can condone refusing a women the choice to choose to have an abortion it can be seen as consistent with his religious principles. However, I would also like to point out that this is actually not in agreement with the church's teachings which allow for exceptions if the women's life are threatened, rape, incest and fetal malformation.

What was the motto of the state in 1984?

(5,946 posts)about him as if he were a reasonable choice and then say that Trump is nuts. Yes he is, and I don't want either of them to get anywhere in politics, but of the two - Carson is by far the nuttiest. And dangerous with his religious zeal and complete lack of knowledge of the constitution or how the government works - did I hear him say his book was on the constitution? the constitution as told to god, maybe?

(6,440 posts)I know people make jokes about him being a brain surgeon, but...he's a brain surgeon! He clearly has intelligence, but there's something sort of "off" about him. I wonder if he has some sort of autistic spectrum disorder, though I hasten to add that I have no standing to make such a diagnosis, and I don't wish to cause offence to people with autism, or to those who know them.

(7,596 posts)How can Trump and Carson get away with saying all these moronic, batshit crazy things? These two bozos should be the fringe candidates with no prayer of winning, not the frontrunners. Republican voters must have all underwent lobotomies in the last four years. That's the only explanation I can come up with for whatever the hell is happening right now.

Hell, I wouldn't even trust a brain surgeon to fix my broken laptop because excellence in one field does not imply excellence in all fields. Why does ANYONE think Carson could or should run the county?

(2,107 posts)All I hear Carson saying is the same kind of lame crap that my uncle won't say in public because he's white and knows it won't fly. That explains the right wing's infatuation with him, I suppose. Carson's lack of cogent ideas is shielded by his black exterior. In a strange way, I guess this is racial progress. Carson proves that anyone can be a right wing ignoramus now.

(50,530 posts)Because abortion is so bad we can get away with comparing it to chattel slavery, we should enslave millions of pregnant women who either don't want to be pregnant, had pregnancy forced upon them, or shouldn't be pregnant in the first place.
Ben Carson has three sons. If he had three daughters and one of them got pregnant through a rape, what would he do?

(58 posts)and I am quite surprised at the number of people who seem unfamiliar with it!
Of course, it's usually spouted by people whose ancestors were never enslaved. To get a descendant of enslaved persons to put it out there - they must be beside themselves with the thrill.
It is part of the litany that includes the assertion that the only difference between a fetus and a human being is "location location location".
That difference is then, of course, dismissed as inconsequential. Inside a woman's body, inside a Toyota Corolla, it's all the same thing.
And, of course, the next thing we can expect from him (if it hasn't come already; I haven't kept careful track) is the tale about how Planned Parenthood is in the business of genocide, targetting African-Americans for extinction by abortion ...
